What do you gar guys recommend and like. Oyster creek has a lot of gar in it and ive seen them surface but not a lot. It would be from shore. Gator gar are in there, big ones too. So what do you recommend

I've caught gar both ways, but dont target them enough to know when one way would work better than another.
I'd like to catch some of those oyster creek far myself!

My philosophy will be one on top, one on the bottom. Trying to figure out a float that will hold up a pretty large chunk of bait...

16 oz water bottle with light stick inside for night fishing. tie 8in line to your leader then just stick other end of line inside bottle and screw on cap.

The larger popping corks do fine as well. Of course I've just used sunfish, shad, and mullet, all less than 8" long. If you're using a chunk of carp or buffalo you might need the bottle trick.

+1

I've been using the largest clip on floats I can find at Wally World (1 1/2"?). I pull the clip mechanism out and use them like a slip bobber. I also rig up my Gar rigs and keep them handy in a box in case I get a hookup that is really fouled or have one chew the leader really bad (since I use Mono instead of wire). Swivel with 24" 80lb mono leader, big trebel hook, then a 6" mono leader with a 4/0 circle hook trailing. Hook the Bluegill in the head with the trebel hook and put the circle hook through the baitfish and let it trail along behind. No weights needed.
