Can anyone please tell me the best ramp to use and the location of any bait shops in the area. Any other tips to catch some crappie would be much appreciated. Thanks.

On HWY 281 in the middle of Marble Falls there is a great bait shop. They have multiple sized minnows and other live bait as well. The place is called Thomas Bait Shop and their address is 1001 Main St Marble Falls , TX 78654. Not sure where you are plannig on putting in but this bait shop is about 10 minutes from Lake LBJ Yacht Club and Marina where you could launch.
Hope this helps.

Thomas Bait shop is good. Drive strait down 1431 to Granite Shoals. There are lots of parks you can launch for free and you can get to any side of the Lake. Thatwill help out if it's windy. The Lake LBJ Marina is at the southeast side of the Lake by the Dam, so its a long drive by boat up the Lake.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Might want to give Kevin a call. Would be worth your time to go with someone who knows the lake; will cut your learning time way down Kevin Kubiak Lakes Granger and LBJ Crappie Fishing Guide 512-848-4469 www.hotcrappie.com Yes indeed the guy wants a guide to show him his way He asked for simple help and not a $$$.$$ You are giving simple help in what way? By Knowing Kevin as well as I do he would provide info even if he didn't get hired. Give him a call. I use the ramp in Bluebriar Park. One lane ramp in a protected cove. It is a free ramp but I drop 5 bucks in the donation box each time I go. Here are the directions: FM 1431 thru Granite Shoals to N. Phillips Ranch Road. Turn left and go straight until the road T's. Turn right and that is Bluebriar Rd. Bluebriar Rd will take you straight into the park. I found this ramp by fishing with Kevin.

Makes me want to go up there and give it a shot. Anyone willing to give any tips? Water depth? Brush piles, standing timber. Best color jigs?

Best place for a newby is the 1431 bridge in Kingsland. Tie up and fish. Jigs or minnows.

Made it to LBJ today. Didn't exactly load the boat but brought home 10 keepers. Had to go thru a lot f 9 1/2 inchers to get them tho. Found a couple of places up the river a ways in 12 to 15 ft of water.
They sure were tasty tonight. Think I might have to give in another try tomorrow.
DaveB, thanks for the info on Bluebriar Park ramp. Nice place to launch.

No problem Troy. It is a nice clean little park. Glad you got enough for dinner last night. Go get you some more.
Keep on fishing.

Did just that.lol. Went back today and got a few more. Still not exactly loading the boat but it was nice.
Almost all of the ones I cleaned last night had eggs. The eggs looked to be about 1/4 to maybe 1/2 grown. Thought it was strange for them to have such small egg sacs this time of year.

Those are eggs that the fish did not expend. I am seeing the same thing @ Granger. Small egg sacks. The weather was weird this year and the crappie were confused during the spawn. High water temps due to a mild winter was the biggest contributing factor. Lot of the CENTEX lakes were very low and then rose quickly with the rains didn't help either. Fish did not spawn in normal areas. That is just my 2 cents.
Keep on fishing.
