I had a Mr. Twister and threw it away awhile back. In a word, JUNK. I bought a Rapala and it was a much better knife but as I have learned, that American Angler with the Shark Blade is the best. Amazon has them for about $35 with the Shark Blade and a conventional blade. It fits your hand great, doesn't get hot, and the knife action seems to be better as well.

Dutch1497, American Angler might fit "your" hand great, not mine. If you have small hands it is almost impossible to hold on to an American Angler. Mister Twister in my book has lasted me a long time so they are not "junk" to everyone.
Yep...OkieBob...The Shark blades are great and will fit Mister Twister and many other brands of knife. And in my book Shark blades are the best for Crappie and Catfish too. Crappie are tall fish and the bigger the Crappie the taller it is. Shark blades are thin in the middle of the long blades and fit Crappie if it is small and just as well if it is big.

RedTop Lady- I have small hands as well. Mister Twister fit my hand just fine, it just wouldn't cut without a lot of pressure. I thought it was dull blades and bought new blades. It still wouldn't cut worth a darn. Maybe I just got a bad one. The Rapala is OK, but the blade release is right where iI put my thumb when using the knife. I which I would have know you liked the twister, I would have mailed you mine.

I do think the Saltwater version of Mr. Twister has a more powerful motor or higher geared or something. I like it better than the freshwater version... the yellow/green one. I have several brands of knives and have tried even more. I am sure I have a Rapala, the one that is AC or DC and paid a lot for it. I really do not like it because I use it mostly for AC and that makes the cord a problem since you have to plug the DC into the AC conversion besides it being so hard for me to hold on to. A couple of my fishing friends had a problem accidently pressing the blade release button. The knife seemed like it was sluggish and took longer to fillet than when I use Mr. Twister.
That is why there are so many brands. Another one of those situations where one is not the best fit for everyone.

I started out with a Black and Decker then I went the Green and Yellow Mr Twister and liked it. Blades got dull so I went to the Saltwater one and it burned up. Went back next time to the green and yellow ones and they did like Dutch said. So back to Black and Decker and wonder why I ever quit them in the first place.

I am using the same blue and white piranha mister twister that I have used for the last 4 years, I have replaced the blades once...I had an American Angler that I paid 50+ bucks for and took it back after two weeks because I thought it was terrible...
Looks like everyone has different luck with all the brands and each individual knife...If it doesn't work the way you expect it too take it back and get another...The quality must vary from knife to knife no matter the brand, just make sure it fits your hand good and that it performs the way you think it should...

Had to buy a new knife the other night and only place I could get one at the time was the walmart in Marble Falls. The only one they had was a Rapala. What a piece of junk. It was the 110 volt model and runs really slow. Blades are not sharp at all.
It will be in the trash can in a couple of days........

Should have went into Housewares and got a $12.50 Black and Decker. Maybe it isn't too late to take it back.

I have an american angler, great knife. I had a cheap one from wal mart I loved, great for pan fish. But big striper bones are tough and burned it up. The American Angler is tough.

I think alot has to do with the knives, and alot has to do with the blades, I dont think theres good quality control on the blades as ive bought brand new replacememt blades that were dull right out of the package. heres an example, theres a guy on you tube that can fillet by hand faster than most can with electric, ... why ? because his knife is super sharp. he has had lots of practice, but still if his knife were dull, he wouldnt be able to run thru them like he does. he sharpens his knife every so often, and that allows him to keep going really fast. you could put a super sharp blade on a slow, weak electric knife, and it would perform better than a super dull blade on a fast , strong knife. Before you condemn the electric motor, u need to closely examine your blades.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Best on the market hands down!!! I will promise you, you will not buy another knife. MR. Twister is great for leaving meat on the fish. Seen plenty of fish at the table jacked by that knife.

The Reason People are Neg on American Angler is because they are accustomed to pushing down so hard they cut right threw the fish qith them. Get one and LET THE KNIFE DO THE WORK.
