What is a good way to check the water temp if you don't have a depth finder with that feature?(Besides falling out of the boat). I'm sure someone makes a specialized thermometer for that purpose. It seems like I've seen handheld oxygen /temperatures gauges that you drop over the side.I need something cheap and simple.(like me)

You can go to Academy and buy cheap one to see what the water temp is.

pool thermometer, attach string to it and get the one that will sink. Mark yur string for specific depths so you will be able to find the thermocline

Go to Petco or any fish aquarium store and buy a Temp gauge for like $2.00.

Wal-mart has a temp gauge put out by Minn-kota it like $15.00. It will stick on the hull or tie it to your trolling motor with zip ties run the little screen where ever you want it has about 15ft of cord. Heck by 2 one for the T-motor and 1 for the dash.
There is another way you can get 1 from the aquarium section tie a string on it and lower it when you want to know the temp but it is made of glass and can break when forget to pick it up.

They have the W-Mart one on clearance at Academy in Grapevine for $7.88. There are nine left after I bought one for the jon boat.
