Connected with Ethernet and the share waypoints option is on for both units. Each one will save waypoints individually

First, make sure all connections are tight then make sure both units are seated well on their mounts. I had the same problem with my 998 and 798. The 798 mount is very tight. Hope this helps.

With Ethernet, GPS data is shared but not transferred to the other unit. Waypoints are displayed on the other unit and highlighted so you can tell where the data is stored.
Read the Ethernet manual.

The other inter-unit connection, Interlink, did write data to the other unit.
