Rules and Posting Thread for the 2012 May All Sunfish Contest. Cane Pole Division also. Contest Word is: "MAY CONTEST"

Rules:
#1. This is a free contest and is open to all Anglers. Fish must be caught in Public Texas Waters. All entries must be posted on this thread. The contest will start Tuesday May 1,2012 and will go till 7pm Thursday May 31,2012.
#2. The target fish is all six sunfish as described by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Refer to Aquatic Freshwater Species section TPW Website. They are the Bluegill,Redbreast,Longear,Warmouth,Green,and Redear.
#3. All laws in the Texas Penal Code and the Texas Parks and Wildlife will be obeyed.
#4. Since this contest is totally free the honor system will play a very important part. All disputes will be handled by one person and his or hers decision will be final.
#5. All entries will be judged on length only.The longest fish wins. The measurements must be made by a clearly marked ruler or measuring tape. The length must be clearly visible for all to see. All lengths will be rounded off to the nearest quarter of an inch just like in all of the past contest. Example. A 5.35" fish will be 5.25". A 5.39" will be a 5.50" fish.
#6.Each entry must contain the "Contest Word" inside the photo next to the fish. The fish must be next to a clearly marked ruler or measuring tape and it's length must be clearly readable for all to see.
#7.Each entry must contain a brief report telling what type of bait used, and type of water body where the fish was caught (river,lake,creek,pond,etc). Naming the water body is optional.
#8.All bait types live,dead,artificial, can be used.
#9.All fish must be caught on a Rod&Reel or Fly Rod.
#10.Standings will be updated on a regular basis and the first postings will get the tie breaker. This will automatically show in the standings. Sudden death fish off only for first place in the adult rod/reel-fly rod contest.
#11.There will be two divisions. Adult Division and Junior Division. The Junior Division is 15 years of age or younger.
#12.All junior division entries must be evident in the entry report. The word junior angler or the age of the angler must be evident with the entry.
#13.Prizes will be awarded to the top five places in both the adult and junior divisions. Gift cards from Acadamey Sports And Outdoors will be awarded. Adult Division: First place $25.000. Second Place $10.00. Third Place $5.00. Fourth place $5.00. Fifth Place $5.00. JUNIOR: First place $15.00. Second place $6.00. Third place $5.00. Fourth place $5.00. Fifth place $5.00.

BIG FISH AWARD STANDINGS:
#1. The current Big Fish award leaders form March contest will be carried over and posted on updated standing page. The leaders at the end of the year(2012) will receive a Shakespeare ultra light open face spinning reel combo.
#2. The longest entry Sunfish(Adult) Bluegill(Adult) and Sunfish(Junior) will get the award.
#3. The entries must be a target fish and all above rules apply.
#4. Rod&Reel and Fly Rod entries only are eligible for the Big Fish Award.

Bonus Fish Rules.
#1.Bonus fish will be posted throughout the contest. A bonus fish alert will be posted with a target fish and a bonus word. All bonus fish must be 7 inches or longer to qualify unless other wise stated in the alert.
#2. All above rules apply. Both the current contest word along with the bonus contest word must be evident inside the photo with the fish.
#3. Junior Anglers are eligible for the bonus fish.
#4. Five Dollar Gift Cards from Acadamey Sports And Outdoors will be awarded to all bonus fish winners.
#5 Cane Pole Division will have a separate bonus round. A Bonus Cane Pole Alert will be posted for the Cane Pole Anglers.
#6. Bonus fish winners will be posted on the standing page.

CANE POLE DIVISION:

#1 All above rules will apply with the exception of the type of pole. Entries must have both the contest word and the word "CANE POLE" posted inside the photo next to their fish.
#2. Cane Poles only that are made from Cane product or light wood product can be used. (No metal rods). Poles must be six feet or longer in length.
#3. Top three places in the adult and junior divisions will receive gift cards from Acadamey Sports And Outdoors. Adult: First place $10.00. Second Place $5.00. Third place $5.00. Junior: First place $7.00. Second place $5.00. Third place $5.00.
#4.Poles must be 6 feet or longer.
#5. Cane Pole entries will not be eligible for Big Fish Awards.

May should be a great month for Sunfish fishing. The fish should be in some good patterns. Fish by structure such as docks,bridges, and brush piles. Tree lines should be active as well. Fish should be in shallower water. These contest have been a huge successes. A lot of knowledge about Sunfish has been shared in all of these contest by each and every angler who made a comment or entry. Keep up the outstanding sportsman ship and by all means keep having fun catching a very simple fish. Good luck to all.

The contest word is a word that will be posted. That word needs to be written on paper or made out in a readable way and needs to be inside the picture of your entry. This ensures that the fish is being caught during the month of the contest.

Nice to see the Longear Contest Champ of 2011 coming out of retirement. This ought to be good!

Bonus Fish Alert: Bonus Fish week #1 is the Large Mouth Bass or the Warmouth. Bonus word is "BOAT". First angler to post a Large Mouth Bass that is 17 inches or longer or a Warmouth that meets the requirements wins.

Bonus Cane Pole Alert: Bonus Cane Pole Fish week #1 is the Bluegill. Bonus word is "CANE POLE". First angler to post a Bluegill caught by using a cane pole that meets the requirements wins.
