You didn't jack my thread, all info posted is very helpful. I'm been trying to catch one of these for a while. I've been alligator gar fishing 10 times, 9 have turned out to be longnose gar spots around San Antonio (everyone around here seems to think all gars are alligator gar). But now I'm on the right track.

We went to the South Shore Unit and caught 11 catfish but no alligator gars. I'm going to the tent area at the Calliham Unit this week to try for gar again (per your advice). Also going to try the Frio River if nothing bites. I've heard there is an access point to the Frio at Tips Park, if you know of any other access points that would be awesome. Thx

Went to Tips City Park in the morning and saw tons of 2 to 3 foot alligator gar. None would bite but we got some decent gar bait, a few small drums. Then we went to the callihan unit at choke canyon. Saw giant alligators, aggressive snakes, monster size buffalo suckers jumping and had 3 runs with our large baits. Not sure what took the bait and ran but I'm assuming it was an alligator gar. Not sure what else could run like that with such huge baits. Oh yea, and we had to fight 2 snakes off our bait. I can't wait to go back to Choke Canyon! love that place
