I can't believe you are not having better results off of bamboo. For me it has always been the best producer of crappie, both numbers and size.

I use 13 stalks and 60lbs. of sacrete in a 5 gallon bucket. Usually 10' tall in 15' of water. Three to a location in a triangle pattern. That sounds about like what you are putting out. It seems "our" results should be similar.

I've tried pvc and Christmas trees and gotten poor results.

Never tried oak or willows so I can't speak to that.

The lake that I'm fishing has little natural structure left. So any stucture you put out will produce some crappie.

I move away from the creeks and look for big flats that gradually taper off into deeper water.

I usually space locations out at least 200 yards apart.

Do y'all not make your boo piles like this? I hate sacrete.

I really don't like Cedar's or Christmas Tree's due to how quick they rot. I also think result would vary according to how much natural cover is at the lake you are putting it out. We do have better luck and #'s at Cedar Creek, than we do at Fork or Palestine. But even at Cedar Creek, we pull more fish off of Natural Brush Piles than we do off of Bamboo or PVC. And in my experience PVC is the worst stucture of them all, by FAR. I have a buddy that has given me A LOT of PVC, and I will continue to put it out according to my word. But I feel the results will be less fish, than if I went with Oak Tree's.

Again not saying that you can't catch fish off of them, because I think anything is better than nothing. But with everything I have earned in the past year, I will be putting out Oak Piles, and increasing my #'s.

We started off making ours like this.

And then went to these, putting out 3 buckets to a location.

Your results are real similar to what I have observed over the last three years of putting out brush. I do have one spot with boo, PVC, and willows. The willows hold more fish on a regular basis but I can catch a better fish on the boo and the PVC is so hard to see or feel that I don't know if I was on it or catching a fish between the other attractors.

Really nice of you to post all this info you spent time collecting and great way to look at it all.

I do have one thing I was going to try with the PVC type since I have one tall one left to put out. I bought it cheap a few years back from some guys selling them on line at a discount to get people to try them. Anyway my plan is to add some bamboo to each PVC pipe sticking out and possible tie on some willow or oak pieces to make it much fuller and bigger. Maybe even use a cinder block or two to help weight it down and stick a bunch of willow and what ever other kind I can in them to have or give it a wide base.

Not sauce how it's going to work yet, but hope to know before long.

Hint: Sink your structure near a natural structure such as between two stumps that are several yards apart. Then you won't even need electronics to find it while still being the only one who knows exactly where it is.

You need a long rope. Drop anchor well away from and up wind from the BP and the boat drift to where you want to be and tie off the rope. Or do like I do and use the TM to move around the BP. clap

That would be nice if my lake had ever seen a stump. rolfmao

Yeah Right... rolfmao

Nothing gets fished more than a stump you can get a visual on. Might as well put a sign, and say fish here. I would love the invisable PVC IF it held fish. Nobody could find it but me. Yep, that's my kind of structure, but has to hold fish.

If I didn't have electronics, I would get a $250 Fish Finder, and wouldn't need the 2 stumps. But that's just me.
