 How to catch gar

The lake I fish has abunch of longnose gar in it and i don't have a clue how to catch them. What kind of rigs do you use. What bait? Best time of the day? Etc...Any tips or advice would be helpful.

Here's a little advice video I made back in August. Just keep in mind that they can be caught throughout the day, especially on hot, clear days, as well as on warm nights.

Haha that's a good video kid, I like  I let em run a little more than a min. or 2- and big bait catches bigger fish.

My advice. Don't try to catch them with a bait net. My buddy and I got one about a week ago while we were catching shad for bait. The nose got snagged in the net, ripped a huge hole in it, and the gar only got away when part of the snout broke. Unpleasant experience all around.

Thanks Right now I have seen them all over Lake Ray Hubbard along grassy banks near Marinas..best bait, the good ole treble hook!! I've had them bite the hook just cause it was by their heads and have snagged tons of em! only thing is you can't catch a lot of em, maybe 1 or 2
You don't always need a boat..
But gosh darn it, sure helps!
