that should make a fine hunting/fishing rig. some 31's ought pretty well take you anywhere you need to go. Thanks Dually. Here is the weekends report, I really have been wanting to hit the Guad since I have been to school here. I finally mustered up the time to do so, decided to head for the bridge south of Sisterdale and poke around. I was up early for some breakfast at the Campus Cafeteria and then headed out to the River. The drive from Boerne to the Bridge was absolutely breath taking and quintessential Texas Hill Country. Blue Bonnets were out in full color, everything was actually GREEN. Got to the bridge around 9. I got all my gear together and hit the water. I didnt take my new Iphone, it is my only camera as of now. The water was running very well, and it was pretty fun for a while. I only took the 3wt becuase thats the only rod I have at school. Lets put it this way the wind was not in my favor yesterday. I caught only one fish from 9am to 2pm. it was a little bass holed up in a small pool that I could actually see, other than there it was pretty murky past a 6 inches deep.I caught him on a Catswhisker. This was recommended to me by Mickfly as a great river fly, but its also a great fly for any water: https://www.grtu.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1689 I went up and down river as best I could, fishing from the bank, and wet wading. It was a pretty futile effort for the most part, the river was really flowing good, and I really would have killed it had I had my kayak and a heavier rod/reel set up. After that I decided to head back to Boerne and hit Cibolo Creek again, as I knew I could actually catch something there. before I left I took a parting shot. The man there on the Sandbar was a flyfisherman who just brought his camera to enjoy a day in the Hill country. Nice guy, Steve. "...Whence I came, I shall return!" - General Douglas MacArthur After another enjoyable drive back to boerne, then opting for a pleasant main street drive rather than diving and dodging down I10 I arrived Cilbolo Nature Center. I dont know about anyone here but I would rather take 1 hour to drive backroads and small highways through small towns than take 1 minute to go truck dodging down the Interstate! The creek was as beautiful as ever and a very enjoyable way to end the afternoon. Oh and raider, I forgot to carry along the the stretch armstrongs, but they sure tore up the cap spiders that I lashed up. I also caught them on the catswhisker, poppers, foam bugs, and the Cibolo Creek Crayfish, of which Mick also recommended to me: https://www.grtu.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1574 As you can see I figured out how to better tune in the Iphone so the picture quality is much better. After that it was back to the Roadrunner Cafe where the day started for some more college grub. Until Next Time. -Gibson

Great post, Gib. I'm going to have to hit up that Cibolo Creek sometime. Maybe you can give ol' Stretch a try next go-round. I'm bad about tying up some new pattern that I want to try, only to reach my fishing spot and discover that they're laying next to my vise...at home.
I'm also glad to hear that country is greening up. They really needed it. I was out that way a couple of weeks ago and shocked to see all the dead cedar trees. When cedar trees die in a drought, it's DRY.

When cedar trees die in a drought, it's DRY. I hear that, it seems I have the same habit. As for the dead cedars, thats what I was thinking. Our ranch in Rising Star has about a 50 Acre field of cedar that were dead this winter. Funny enough All the deer were FAT. Turns out our neighbor planted, and irrigated (with what?) a massive field of Peanuts nextdoor. My friends son shot a deer there opening day, 9 point. It had a 1/2 inch of fat everywhere. It looked like a small horse haha. Best part about that story is that the young man(he is 8 or 9)stood up and relieved himself three times, and the deer still walked out on him! Some people have all the luck! haha!

Nice pics, Gib, especially on Cibolo. That little bass you got is a Guadalupe Bass. Cibolo is one of few places around with pure strain Guadalupes.

Gib,
I have been meaning to get to Cibolo Creek for the longest time. Had heard it was pretty but had no idea it looked that nice. Thanks for sharing the photos.
Also, there is a sales guy at Cavendar Toyota off 410 that restores IH Trucks as a hobby. He and his wife both, actually- I think they have "his and hers". Sold me a 4Runner, really nice and interesting guy. PM me for more info.
Last thing, if you haven't already stick your head into Tacklebox Outfitters in Alamo Heights sometime and say hello to Rick. I have a feeling you two will hit it off famously.
Keep the trip reports coming - we're all living vicariously through you!

Nice pics, Gib, especially on Cibolo. That little bass you got is a Guadalupe Bass. Cibolo is one of few places around with pure strain Guadalupes. Thanks Mick! To me they are the best looking strain of bass I have ever seen. It may be a small little dude but its my favorite picture of all. We need to go fish it together, I'm sure i could learn from your experience! That is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! Thank you for sharing it Gib.
How's old Scout coming along? It sure is beautiful! Its make a great respite from the big city. There are so many hidden gems throughout the Texas Hill Country that sure amaze me. For example Colorado Bend State Park has some very beautiful features such as a waterfall called Gorman Falls. I was there on a Boy Scout trip a few years back and took these shots with my old Iphone.(I know, I know, more phone pictures. I need my own nice camera.) Thats from the bottom and the top. Good times! You can find pictures ten times better than mine here: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/colorado_bend/They also have some sweet caves to poke around and the fishing on the Colorado River aint to shabby! As for the scout you can follow my progress here: http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103369Though I am sure I will post a picture every once in a while of it. It is my Fishing rig so its fishing related right?? Gib,

I'll make it a point to head over there this week sometime if I get a chance. Thanks for the heads up! As for the trip reports I plan to keep this thread highly updated with my escapades. Thanks for the interest! Looks absolutely amazing. Would absolutely love to go there one day. It would be well worth it!

Well the end of this semester is continuing to be a kick in the pants. Lots of studying going on. I did get a break today to go get my birthday present TFO BVK 5 weight 9'and a Lamson Konic all strung up and ready for Montana! I finally have a destination and we will be lodging on the Bitterroot River in southwest Montana. Two whole weeks of fishing! We will also make a few pitstops on the way there as well as a few day trips to different Rivers. I believe me and a buddy are going to hit up some small ponds around San Antonio, (He grew up here) and I'll post up my report of that when the time comes. Talk about a great Birthday!

Now that our Montana destination has been set, we have begun preparations, a few of the loyal tools that will acompany us along the way. Yes, all three of these bamboo rods are older than me. sure are fun to fling a fly with! One is my grandfathers and two are my great grandfathers, one from either side of the family. I have been so busy since I got home about a week ago. I havent had time to even think fishing. Headed to Austin today for a graduation, just too much going on! Hopefully we will be hitting my friends tanks in a couple days and I'll post the update. Tight lines. Gibson

I am utterly ashamed of myself for completely forgetting to post anything for 6 months. I completely forgot to post a trip report for Montana. So I suppose a report is in order. We drove there over a couple of days, making stops in some awsome cities including Salt Lake City which was absolutely gorgeous. A picture from the hotel parking lot: Montana was absolutely incredible and the fishing was a blast. We were located on the West Fork of the Upper Bitterroot River where the water was extremely cold and was loaded with wild cutthroats. The rest of our fishing was commited downstream on the main stretch of the Bitterroot. The largest peak close to us was Trapper peak. This picture of Trapper Peak was shot above the dam of a resevoir at the top of the valley. First things first we went to the flyshops to get our licenses and started asking around for what flies we were supposed to be using. I brought all my tying gear, and purchased all of the necessary materials for two weeks of fishing. The main two flies that we had the most luck using were the Golden Stone fly followed by a pink San Juan. I tied literally about 100 of each over the two weeks we were there, I was tying for me and my dad, but also some friends and for three of my siblings. Golden Stones were tied 14, 12 and 10, all of which were successful in different locations. We chose not to hire a guide or a boat but rather to wade through the wadable sections. The fishing was absolutely great. I kept score usually beating out my dad for about 10 fish a day compared to his 4 or 5, I also didnt have to handle a 3 and 7 year old Here is the River: And the fish! The biggest fish I caught the whole time: 24in Brown. Fogrot to mention that we went a bifferent route onthe way home stopping through Yellowstone and Denver. The Grand Tetons: It was an outstanding trip altogether. Hope you all enjoyed some good fishing in my absence! I talked my roomate into heading out with me soon so stay tuned!

Thanks for the report, even late. That is some beautiful country, and some very nice fish. I'm glad y'all had a good time. I think, by law, that you get a multiplier for each pre-teen you are riding herd on, so your dad's catch was more like 12 to 15 per day. Just sayin'. Kirk

Dude! Nice post!
We now have a place back in the Hill Country. If we can match schedules, let's fish together sometime.
FYI, that last fish picture looks like a cutthroat.
