I had been a bank fisherman. But I recently got a small 14' alum boat. I went out to the lakes (around North and East Dallas areas)with my boat a few times but I was intimated by the vastness of those lakes. Boat fishing is so different that bank fishing. I know I need to relearn fishing once again. So, I need someone to show me around and teach me where to find fish and how to catch them (but don't have money to hire a guide).

I Live in Plano and have day off on Thursday (may be Saturday also). Please let me know if you need a partner and a student. e-mail me

edche1@yahoo.com

Thanks.

Hey Ed, I live a little far to get to fish with you but wanted to give a little advice. When I got my first boat I was overwhelmed by the unlimited places to throw a line. The thing you need to remember is that no matter how big a lake is you only need to cast where the fish are! Find out from the bait shop or other local anglers how deep the species you are after is hanging out in. If they are shallow then find a good cove and pound the banks, grass lines, and boat docks until you find em. If they are deep then just read your graph until you find that drop off, hump, or brush pile and hammer away.

Good luck--CR

Thanks for the ofer. I reaaly appreciate. However, I do not much interest in cats. I am interested in all kinds of bass and crappie. Thanks?

If you can't find someone to show you around a bit, maybe a little on-line advice will get you going in the right direction.

First off, you don't have to fish very many lakes to find fish. That eliminates alot of the 'vastness' you mentioned. Pick one or two lakes you want to learn, and go from there.

Secondly, the fact that you're in a 14 foot jonboat eliminates alot more vastness, just as my float-tube does for me! You will be limited to small water areas on larger lakes, or smaller lakes in general. I'd recommend picking a few small lakes under 1000 acres. You can find a few on TP&W's website under "Fishing" and then "Lakes". It'll list all the lakes in N. Texas and you can look at them and how they rate on a Low to Excellent scale for their predominant species.

Then, take some time to do some research on Map Reading, Seasonal changes of bass, and structure fishing. I know this is alot harder than asking someone to show you around, but it'll be much more rewarding when you find those fish yourself!

If you've got Ray Roberts in mind, email me and I'll give you as much help as I can. I know that lake pretty well, and if you put in at Buck Creek, you should be safe on all but the windiest of days. There is enough water to learn in Buck to keep you busy for a year!

Like I said, if you want to email me, we can talk in detail as long as you want, instead of me hogging your thread!

Hi Kelly, Yes, I am interested in Ray Roberts. Could you tell me about where to start and how to fish the lake? By the way, where is Buck Lake? Thanks!

Sorry I wasn't clear. Buck Creek is the easternmost arm of Ray Roberts and is quite long, yet narrow. It doesn't get as rough as the main lake. It runs East/West and is usually pretty protected. LOTS of timber and plenty of good structure, including the railroad tracks that are underwater. Plenty of good ponds and humps in Buck also.

I'll shoot you an email tomorrow after I double check my lake map and give you some spots I've got marked.

Edd,

Your profile doesn't include an email addy. Mine is kellydenham@hotmail.com if you want to email me and keep your email off your profile.

Put "Ray Roberts" in the title, so it doesn't go to junk mail.

Just wanted to add that the area rivers are an excellent target for that boat. Slip in below or above any area lake and drop a 1/32oz. tube jig down amongst any log jams you find and hold on.

Edd, have you tried Lake Lewisville? There are some boat ramps off of I-35 just past the bridge on the right when your going north. There is some trees in a little cove near the ramps and there is an island not too far from the ramps. You might try it during the week when there ain't many jet skis. Try Little Elm, I haven't made it out there yet but a couple of guys replied to a post I made about week ago, and said it was pretty good.

I just got a jon boat not too long ago and I'm still trying to find more spots to fish in the same area, I'll let you know if I find anymore.

One thing i have noticed since I got my boat when u fish from the bank you try to throw your line as far out in the lake as you can and when you fish from a boat you are often thowing your line towards the bank go figure

I also recomend you in vest in a gps nothing is worse than getting lost on a lake as it gets dark and you are running out of gas

I also fish lewisville I am going out on wends and sat drop me an e mail if you would like to join me
