Going to be wade fishing soon which means I'll be doing several lure changes throughout the day. My line is 30lb braid. So my question is do I even need a leader. Going to be working for reds/specks. Thoughts?

i would use a 15 lbs or 10lbs then attach a 25-30 lb mono leader on your mainline. using a uni to uni knot

id put a small snap swivel with no leader on the main line. That way its easy to change out lures.

I use 17lb trilene, then a small barrel swivel, then a 25 lb 6" mono leader.I have had to many lost fish for biting through are tearing through. It works for me..

I would definatly go with a 20 lb shock leader. If you tie your lures direct use a loop knot. A loop knot works much better with mono than braid. If you want to change your lures out quickly you can use a quick clip. Norton makes a good quick clip that they sell at Academy. Dont get the Norman clups though because they will fail. FTU sells one also made by Tony Caveraze that work great. And also the one by Quick Swirl is good. I use them all the time just not in tourneys. I trust my knot over quick clips in tourneys. If you go with any of the quick clips make sure you get the one with the swivels so it will help do away with any line twist that may occur while working soft plastics.

All my reels are spooled with 10 lb test Berkley Big Game main line and I usually start off with 5' of 20 lb Berkley Big Game leader. 5' of leader if no quick clip is used and about 20" if I'm using the quick clip.

I don't fool around with leaders on braid. Don't need it, and the fish don't care.

That's what I was thinking. So you've never had issues with it getting broke through?

Only time I ran into a problem with braid cutting was when fishing snook in Fl. Their gill plates are like razors sometimes. Heck I have seen 30lb mono get cut up.

I haven't had any problems with braids here though, as long as you stay out of the shell beds and sharp objects.

I run 30# PowerPro on my baitcaster with a swivel/quickconnect* on the end and have my lures pretied with a swivel on the end-using 20# mono leader-less work changing em out on the water-only issue is how u carry em they will tangle all up silly like!!Gotta keep em seperated-***Good posts Aqua I have read a few of ur posts on the forums and they all sound quite knowledgeable smile Forgot to add * I do like using at least 2 feet of my mono leader line on my pretied lures- pretty much run my bottom rigs the same way with snelled hooks-never been broke off-hard to figure how that happens when we have adjustable drags 0-o
