Has anyone been on the 80hr trip at Dolphin Docks? Thinking about going on one later this year. Any tips or suggestions?

Have been with them in the past. Slow, crowded, cramped boat, with minimal deck space. LONG, slow boat trip out to the floater rigs.

They do put you on fish, but I'd recommend the Big E out of Freeport or the Scat Cat out of Port A over Dolphin Docks for overnight trips

Big e no longer in Freeport in venice now. I would go with scat cat.

The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

I didn't want to hear that. I was thinking about doing a 60hr trip with them next month. The Scat Cat isn't running any trips, and the Cap't John is full and doesn't allow over hand casting anyway. The Big E has openings but it is twice as far and cost almost twice as much. Are there any other good options

Maybe check with Deep Sea Headquarters to see what overnight tuna trips they're running?

The New Buccaneer has two trips in May (Galveston Party Boats). I believe they are 7-8 and 19-20 and $300. BTW, the Big E isn't in Venice, it's in Empire

You can only keep a 2 day limit so no need to go over 24 hrs. Dont go out of Galveston unless you just like riding in boats it takes way to long to get to deep water

The 24hr trips don't make it out far enough for Yellowfin though. I've heard of 36 hour trips that run 12, fish 12, and run back 12. But thats just hearsay so I don't know if anyone did or still does those trips.

The 80 hr trip in question is a tuna trip to the floaters and Galveston is closest to the floaters by a small margin

DD = slow boats, so so deckhands,"missing" fish upon return and no consideration given by DD for "lost" fish. All this on a fathers day trip bought and paid for by g-kids odd jobs. Never again.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

I have experienced this as well. Even still they serve a purpose. They are cheapest (reflected by service as well) and if a person needs to get offshore on the most economical budget this is the place. The longer trips include meals that are decent and is a value worth mentioning. They do catch fish. If money is not that slim any other operation in the gulf is better.

Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?
