I am a catfish newbie, but would like to start fishing for them. I have seen pics and heard on here that the channel catfish are pretty easy to catch from the rocks on Hubbard this time of year. What kind of bait are you guys using? Nightcrawlers, shad, shrimp, liver, minnows??? I am having a fish fry for Memorial Day and would like to stock the freezer before then. What kind of gear do you use? Will my crappie gear work? Any suggestions/tips for a newbie fishing the rocks?

Now that's a mess of good eatin!

Catfish in the rocks this time of year is great .They will hit just about anything you put in front of them if they are ready .I use fresh cut shad myself.Your crappie gear should work fine unless it is real light .You can never tell when you might get a Large fish or diffrent type of fish fishing this way.Use a float with a treble hook or a small kahle hook to fish less than 4 foot toss right into the rocks early morning or late in the eve. Just work your way down the bank if you do not get bit move.Key in on grass a logs these areas usally hold fish.If they are deeper just use a crappie hook with a split shot drop it straight down and, work the rocks like you are working a jig.Good luck on the fish fry.
