Kevin and his dad, George, went with me Tuesday and we found a good fishing for striped bass. They ended the morning with 10 nice ones.

Shadslinger, when they stocked Livingston back in the 70s and 80s they produced a lake record 31.5 lbs for stripers. What do you think the biggest are up to now since they started restocking stripers again?

That 31.5 fish came from below the dam, it is considered the lake for body of water records. There seems to have never been fish as large as those below the dam in the lake. Occasional reports from trot liners catching stripers over 30" are somewhat common. Rod and reel catches of a 30" striper in the lake are very rare.
The biggest we catch are about 9.5 pounds in the lake. This year I caught a striper I weighed from the tail race that was 14 pounds and released some that day a little bigger.
I think the enriched environment, the presence of more gizzard shad/river herring below the dam, and the possibility of some Gulf strain stripers still making a stand there contribute to the larger stripers than exist in the lake. The lake is too shallow and has mostly thread fin shad, which just don't pack the punch nutritionally that gizzard shad do, and is not a lake that is conducive to growing large stripers. Or even very old stripers.
