?Is BPS's "Take 6 months to pay" a scam I've found about $350 in tackle (Mostly plastics, hooks, and line) that I want to buy and was thinking about doing the 6 months to pay deal, I have a Visa debit card and with all the $200 I have in the account now, it seems like a good deal especially with the $30 I make a week with my Job with chres. But, has anyone ever tried doing the 6 months to pay? I just want to make sure it's no rip off or scam.......

I would say financing tackle probably isn't a good idea. You are better off buying what you need for your next trip with cash.

BAD idea in your situation. Did it one time on a rod. When you buy all the tackle they will charge you for half the cost right off, then over the next six months you pay the other half in equal payments.

It isn't a scam as long as you pay it off before the 6 months is up. They get the initial payment and 1st month up front so be prepared for that. I will say that if you are sitting at $200 in the bank and $30 per week I would just save up and buy it with cash. They require a credit/debit card on file to debit the payments from as you don't get a traditional bill.

I'm not sure about BPS, but you typical interest free loan can be a great deal IF you pay it off on time. I heard that something like 80 percent of these loans are not paid off on time and that's where the company's make their money. Read the fine print.
I guess if you were buying a big ticket item like a trolling motor or sonar it might make sense. But for plastics and hooks, not so much.

This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

Lol I dont think its possible to be a fisherman and live by daveramsey's nonsense... Yes you can. At least I can. Save up and make your purchase with cash! That $350.00 purchase on some gimmicky finance will end of cost you way more in the long run.

Not a scam, but stupid to finance tackle.
You probably won't qualify anyways, I'm sure they do a credit check

paying for everything with cash is not all dave ramsey is about... call him and ask him if he thinks having a boat that you paid cash for is a good idea you will just love his response...
I am guessing this is a younger kid that is just trying to get a good stock on fishing tackle with his weekly allowance... or atleast I hope that is what the OP is trying to do...

To answer your question, no it is not a scam- They run two months payments on your card at first to be sure you have the funds but only charge the first month- I used it to buy some electronics, but I had the money to pay the total amount- Just my two cents, you would be wise not to jump out and buy $300 worth of tackle if you are just starting out- I think most guys here will tell you that they have a lot of tackle that never gets used- Spend some time finding out what tackle best suits your fishing syle, then stick with it- Good luck

Dave Ramsey's "nonsense" is great advice in my opinion. Getting into to debt of any kind in the current state we're in is one of the worst things you can do. He wouldn't have a problem with someone owning a boat if they can logically afford the expenses involved.
Anyway, I think it's downright crazy to acquire fishing tackle on credit. If you already have $200, why not just spend $100 bucks on what you NEED to get out and fish.
When I was a kid, I made $45 a month working on my dad's farm as an allowance. I owned 2 cheap shakespeare baitcaster combos and fished with about 5 or 10 lures at any given time. Caught massive amounts of fish.
