Welcome to the forum and to the DFW. You can scroll down the page and look under bank fishing, and go down the page to ponds and you should find you some onds to fish. wink

There are lots of local ponds. I was on one up near Lewisville, I35E near 121 today and, while I didn't even get a bite, we saw several decent size bass swimming around about 5 feet down in the clear water right next to the many weed clumps in that pond. I've caught a couple of fish there this week, including a pretty darned big crappie that just inhaled a 5" swim bait -- the whole thing. I fish a golf course pond locally where I can catch decent numbers of small bass and have seen a 4 lber caught. Can't tell where that is, due to an oath of secrecy to the guy who showed me. But you can search the TFF archives and find lots of info. I might head up to a park-pond north of Denton tonight where I've had some luck before bank fishing.

Sorry, Texas law states you must have lived in the state for at least 2 years before you can catch lunkers!!! Welcome to the best fishing site around, you will find alot of good, helpful info here and even find a fishing partner or two.

The worst times fishing are still better than the best time thinking about it.

If you are interested in driving about 30 mins South of where you are, I could put you on some 5-8 pounders. Little pond I know in Ellis Co. (Impossible to find if you don't know where to look.) Also a word of advice, if you are really looking to find a pond, buy you a mapsco for your area. It will show all the ponds, creeks, and most bodies of water especially if they are public. Go through the book, mark off the ones you fished and just go through until you found your favorite!! Thats what I have done here in Ellis Co. and it's been awesome. I have found ponds that were not even in the book by going to one that was. Big Hawgs!!!

I'm planning on heading up to try a little pond next to Farmers Branch Library on Web Chapel Rd, north of I635. It has a fountain in it, which should aerate the water pretty well. Not sure what I'll find, but I'll post later. I thought I had read something about somebody catching good sized carp and maybe some bass around there somewhere.

You might want to check out White Rock Lake. That would be pretty conveinent for north Dallas. Look on the "Bank Fishing" forum for stuff about White Rock Creek.

White Rock Lake is a little north of downtown Dallas. Kind of hard to fish, but a tournament was held there a few years back. There's one guy on this forum who knows how to fish it, but I doubt that he would share his secret spots.

I looked at the pretty little pond at Farmer's Branch Library on Web Chapel Rd north of I635 last night. Nice fountain. It's really on a creek, and I have this theory that local creeks seem to have pollution levels or something that do not promote growth and numbers of bass. I could be wrong. I don't know if that creek is the creek named Farmers Branch for which that community is named.

I also took a look at the series of ponds formed by a series of dams on a trickle stream that runs through Thomas Jefferson Park, which is just off the west of MacArthur Blvd north of 183 and south of 161. Beautiful looking series of ponds. There is a loop road that runs up one side and then down the other. Can't park on one side of that road, but can park on the inner (pond/creek) side. I tried some lures but didn't do any good. Not sure what's in there. That creek and series of ponds extends under MacArthur eastward, and one can park in the MacDonalds parking lot and fish the first pond to the east of MacArthur. There are lots of townhouses and apartments around all these ponds and lots of people walking around at night. Seems like a place where people feel safe walking outside at night. But nobody I asked had seen anybody fishing there. So it's still a big question mark.

Somebody said something about the Elm Fork of the Trinity River behind the Dr Pepper Bottling plant (I guess that's the one visible from I35E north of I635) being good for some decent size bass, so I guess that whole string of ponds and the river itself running southward from there (roughly parallel to I35E and east of it) might be good. There are some ponds that show up on the map on something called "LB Golf Club". Not sure how to get to that or if it's accessible. There's a big pond on that river that runs under Loop 12 off I35E north of 183 and the map looks like the access roads there might make that accessible, but it looks very wild, and I wouldn't want to go exploring there at night (without snake boots, a flashlight and a buddy along).
