Went fishing today and used bread as bait in my neihgborhood pond, the perch would tear it up before anything else could get to it? what bait should i use to catch carp in a small pond? I occasionally catch a grass or common carp maybe once every 2 or 3 trips. thanks!

Maize, nuggets, boilies or artificials.
Hope this helps?

Sweetcorn is usually not as swarmed by sunfish as bread.
Also you might try kneading chili powder or cayenne into the bread. It attracts carp but I don't think sunfish are fond of it.

It takes me several tries to catch carp in a pond, and I blank often. But the reward can be great.

I usually fish three spots when trying a new one.
One very close, off a weed line if it exists.
One in the deepest part of the pond.
And one just somewhere where the other rods are not.
If someone is feeding ducks bread, fish there. Usually this is the spot park goers can get to the easiest.

Koi and carp sometimes cruises the banks while feeding, coming within visual range. Especially in the morning. I always chum an area right in front of me. If I see them I give them a line. This can result in a nice fish or extreme frustration.

Also, summer and winter fish deeper water than spring and fall. But every pond has its own personality.

Or skip all the above and get someone who has fished it tell you were to fish.

I tend to over think fishing. Please help me.
When I am over complicating something please kick me in the face. Hard.
