Check out Matt Allen on Tacticalbassin.com , he uses braid for EVERYTHING, and he lives and fishes california lakes. Even in those crystal clear waters the fish hit the braid.
He does use a 2/3 foot floro leader on most stuff. Everything else is straight braid though. So don't don't count it out just because it's highly visible.

If people are catching fish on Alabama rigs with piece of wire in front of the bait, i don't think braid is as big of a visual issue. I use it for topwater frogs and punching think mats or flipping thick brush, other wise its fluorocarbon or mono/copolymers

Time and place for every application, Falcon Lake open water points its flouro for me, go to the trees and its a no brainer, they could care less what kind of line you are using but if you aren't using tow rope you will not stand a chance!

I use it on jig, spinner bait, Carolina rig and frog fishing. It has it's place for sure. Use a good braid, Suffix 832 or Power Pro, good stuff.

I throw it on buzz baits, frogs and Carolina Rigs only. C-Rig has a fluorocarbon leader. It has it's place. +1 Exactly! My rigs are identical

This all said I think visibility is a crutch we use because of our own confidence. How about the fact that with braid you will feel more bites than with any other line, less stretch more sensitivity. Anybody add those fish into the equation? 361V has the right of it. Their brain is pee sized... Agree 100% Yeah - braid is more visible - to the fisherman. So what? Who really knows if or how pea-brained bass "see" or react to it in their own environment. It's just another variable in the fishing equation. There are way too many other variables that could account for one fisherman getting more bites while coincidentally using fluorocarbon than someone else in the boat using braid even if using the same bait.

Lots of data on Bass eyesight. They see about 4x better than humans.

A fishing partner I had always outfished me throwing senkos around 3:1 while he used 30# braid and I used 10# fluoro here on Amistad. Granted he fished from the front of the boat but he still got bit quite a bit more than I did.

I see I have struck a nerve very unintentionally! I still am not sold on the line because almost unamimously evryone uses a leader of some sort. May try some with topwater since I think the fish strike instinctively and concentrate solely on the bait.I'll just shop around and see if I can find some that looks acceptable. powdr

I see several use braid for buzzbaits. Do you use braid in open water throwing buzzbaits? I use strictly mono. I know braid floats but never thought of using it for buzzbaits unless I am throwing over matted grass/hydrilla.

I am 70,been bassfishing from 5 yrs to present.Use nothing but braid.Just got back for a month on amistad, had great luck.Use 12 lb on small spinning rigs.30to 50 on other spinning reels and baitcasters as well.Personally I don't think a bass sits in the brush or grass and thinks to itself hey that bait has a line on it.This farse comes from tackle salesmen like KVD,Roland martin,Bill Dance and so forth. So keep on buying new tackle, new line, fill your campartments up on the boat, show off those 60,000 dollar boats and keep basspro shop flurishing.Me,I will stick to braid and be well pleased.Happy trails.
