Does anyone know of the best type of paint to use on rods?
I just can't get used to the bright yellow on my Skeet Reese rod. I didn't think that just a regular paint would work, but I am no expert.
I assume it will be some sort of spray paint, and I will just put painter's tape over the guides.

Rod paint is a 2 part paint urethane or epoxy. You cant duplicate this finish with a spray can! Spray can paint is not very hard or durable. You could spray can it if you did not like it you could wash it off if it looks bad. I would mask the guides and try it! Don't expect to last!
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

The auto spay can paint is a lacquer based paint! I have been painting for 35 years. We build our own rods. Most people just want to spray the rod. They don't want to prep it right, the prep makes it stick.

It probably won't last, but it will be better than that yellow for a little while. I did paint it black. I used painters tape to cover the guides. I will be using it quite a bit this weekend, so I will see how long it takes before the yellow spots start showing up from consistent casting and just being in the boat.
Thanks for the help. If this doesn't last long, I will probably just either get used to it or take the time to prep better. As long as the action is there, it is still a decent rod.

I like yellow and white rods, but then I night fish allot. I'm still looking for some bright limegreen rods.

Spray it with regular paint, and clear coat it. That's what I would do.
