I've seen a few of these lately and wanted to post one for a specific situation. I've never really Carolina rigged before so bare with me. First of all what the best main line to use? I've heard braid but I need some opinions. I'll be fishing 8-20 ft deep probably. What's a reasonable size weight to throw also. And the leader should be fluorocarbon right? Lol this is all just things I've heard and trying to implement. I should be fishing deep rocks with vegetation surround, what lure would you throw on your c-rig? Thanks to all those who reply, I'm a virgin c-rig thrower in need of help lol

I should be fishing deep rocks with vegetation surround, what lure would you throw on your c-rig? Braid or fluoro on the main line. If you are using tungsten weights with sleeves go with braid as the sleeves tend to fray and weaken the fluoro. If you go with tungsten weights, consider brass spacers instead of glass beads, especially if you choose braid. The tungsten is so hard it can cut the glass bead and leave a sharp edge that will cut your line. Leader material i dont think is as important, mono, fluoro, or hybrid are all fine choices and a little stretch on that length of line (4 foot max) is not going to hurt your hookset. Weights you need to decide tungsten or lead ... But weight is generally 1/2 oz to 1 oz depending on depth and wind. The deeper and windier, go with a heavier setup. Finally lures ... Flukes, ring frys, brush hogs, even senkos, tornados, kreatures, lizards, power worms ... Pretty much any kind of soft plastic. Whatever they are in the mood for. Good luck.

Agree with Mr Martin. Also add, I like to sweep the rod slowly from the front to one side rather than straight up and down. I seem to keep my sinker in contact with the bottom better that way and get more bites.

I was fortunate enough to have been taught some excellent pointers along the way, and now LOVE to C-rig..
I always throw a 1oz weight(preferably tungsten), and usually its on 20lb flourocarbon. I will put a hyper stick, ring fry, craw tube, or baby creature on the business end.
I also occasionally will throw a "mini" C-rig, with lighter weight, lighter line and more of a finesse presentation bait on the end.. done this at Lake Athens with some success in the past.
Lot of folks hate that old ball n chain, but it can help you quickly cover water, determine the bottom composition, and catch some big ole pigs!

I use 17lbs. Berkley Big Game for the main line and 12lbs. Berkley Big Game for a leader, (3 foot long). I don't use braid, because braid has no stretch and I have pulled the hook right out of the fish with braid. I go with mono for a leader mainly because it floats and I like to have my bait floating a little behind the weight. Fluorocarbon will sink. I have found that a 3/4oz.tungsten weight works best in just about any situations and as stated earlier just about any soft plastic works great. Like Ted Martin stated "whatever they are in the mood for.
