I got a bump once and let loose with a DD hookset. Poor bluegill never knew what hit him when he went airborn.

I've lost many a plug setting into a stump, but I won't miss a bite cause like FZ1 says...

We all stumble and make mistakes. When you stumble, do you want your brother to help knock you down or to help set you back on your feet?

Ive stuck my share of stumps. I would rather slam the hook into 10 stumps...than NOT slam the hook into one chunk.

Hooksets are free!

I've almost dumped my kayak setting the hook on more than one occasion. I'm not a hard hooksetter, but setting the hook into a rock or log with braided line has caught me off guard a few times.

It seems the more bites I get in a row without catching anything the harder I set the hook. Have broke a pole or two, hurt my side, and even came back with a set of crappie lips.

It's like missing the golf ball or swinging for the fence and striking out.

You know you got it bad when a failed hook set tears an oblique muscle and puts you on the DL...

Watched my grandfather set the hook and the chair back break once. He ended up in the lake still holding his rod with fish attached. It was a white bass on lake livingston

I've got a bruise on my stomach right now.... I set the hook so hard on a stump I sheared 4 guides off a Duckett rod. It snapped the braid I was using. My fishing buddy (reelgirl) about fell in the water laughing!

I cross their eyes everytime, had a small fish come out of the water over my head and into the water on the other side of the boat before from a hookset

In a rocky area one time I set the hook hard and was snagged. I was cussing under my breath and maneuvering the boat over to where the lure was. I reeled up tight and shook the rod around and freed her up. When I pulled it up, the was a just under one pound dink on it. I've always wondered how that went down.

Fished Falcon with a couple of buddies a few months ago and one of my buddies would set the hook and say grab the net this is the "One"...so one of us would throw our rod down and scamper around the boat to fetch the net hoping to see a bucketmouth and it was either a dink a tree limb or a old ball of fishing string...! Hilarious
