I'm an older bass fisherman and I grew up all of my life throwing mono. Braid was taboo because it could be seen so easily. Now w/the emergence of fluro and copolymers I can use either but still can't bring myself to use the braid. Is the line so different now or has it just finally been accepted w/the new brands and styles on the market.Like spider wire... I could never use the stuff.Maybe I'm just so old fashioned that I can't see the forest for the trees.OPINIONS AND HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. powdr

It's strong, small diameter, limp, buoyant, low stretch, easily manageble, and lasts long.
If you can get over your negatives about it I think you'll using it a lot.

Most people use it for particular applications which normally include heavy cover flipping and frogs or very large, heavy baits (a-rigs, swimbaits).

Add to that Buzz Baits where the line visibility and low stretch are a consideration. Braid has it's place. I have braid on approx. 20% of my rods. Along side with Fluorocarbon and Mono Rods.

I throw it on buzz baits, frogs and Carolina Rigs only. C-Rig has a fluorocarbon leader. It has it's place.

I do not want to say that fish in ulta-clear open water are not spooked by heavy line but...we often give hungry texas bass waiting in ambush to much credit for their pea-size brain. Try the braid and see if you don't get just as many bites...and more in the boat. Got to have confidence in it though.

Most of the year I dont have braid on any rods personally I dont like it. But now that I fish Amistad and plan on frog fishing/punching I am about to put it on a few rods until the bite wears down and it will come off. Some people like it for heavy cover flipping/pitching personally I dont feel the need for it over 25lb Seaguar. I can also see the use for it on a c-rig rod but I dont have a strictly c-rig rod so I have to make sacrifices there.

I'm an old timer too. I bought some spider wire back in the late 80's or early 90's I spooled it up on a bait caster. It buried up on itself when I pulled hard against a snag. I had to cut it off the spool. I had another bait caster about 2/3 full of line. I put the rest of the spool on that reel with the mono backing. I still use that line today. Its perfect for live bait because you can feel everything. I don't worry about a leader. I'm going to put that line on a spinning reel, and see how it works. Someone said they liked it that way. My braid is 30 lbs. When I get snagged its sometimes hard to get it back. I've drug in tires, Logs, and all manner of trash. It takes some getting used to, but I like it. It can last forever.

Braid loves Bark or wood. Use 4ft leader 30# Floro.

If you can get over your negatives about it I think you'll using it a lot. Some of the negatives are: You will get less bites with braid than you will with the other non braided lines. I have no idea why, if it is some kind of weird sound it gives off in the water either by singing through your rod guides or singing when it is in contact with objects in the water but whatever it is the fish (at times) just do not like it and you will get less bites. This is a fact, not opinion based. You will catch fish with braid tied direct and with a leader just not as many. You can cut your fingers to the bone if you grab the line and pull on it if you are hung up, so Never do that. It will bury itself deep in the spool if you pull on a stuck bait using your rod and reel, so Never do that also. Carry something in the boat with you that you can wrap the line around to get your stuck lure back. Thats all the negatives I can think of. The positives have been listed above. I still use braid but for very limited uses.

This is a fact, not opinion based. You will catch fish with braid tied direct and with a leader just not as many. yeah I would like to see your scientific study that PROVES that you will get less bites with braid. Come on dude... There are plenty of people who talke about "you can see braid" oh you'll get less bites I only use it in x situation. Ok So why is almost WITHOUT FAIL, one of those situations throwing a swim bait? THIS MAKES NO SENSE You throw a bait thats ONLY ability to catch fish is based on the fact that it LOOK like a swimming dinner. YET you throw the most visible line??? Now I'm not saying that some lakes arn't different than others, pressure will effect them and fish do get line shy but I think that is WAY more rare than we think it is. Why do so many amistad fishermen use braid in one of the clearest lakes in the state. AND NOT JUST TO PUNCH/FROG This all said I think visibility is a crutch we use because of our own confidence. How about the fact that with braid you will feel more bites than with any other line, less stretch more sensitivity. Anybody add those fish into the equation? 361V has the right of it. Their brain is pee sized...
