30 years ago I fished there a lot. I ran trot lines down there twice a day and caught many fish in that area until the fed's posted signs stating the water was contaminated. There was a superfund project from an old chemical company that was located off of Scarsdale Blvd. that contaminated the whole area. Entire subdivisions in that area were bought up by the feds and an Astrodome size tent was setup over the area where the dirt was being excavated. This went on for several years.

If I were you I would check with TPWL to see if the water is still considered contaminated.

I appreciate the feedback. The advisory from July 2009 is still in place. I'm not so much interested in keeping any fish - just trying to finda a place near the Pearland area where I can take my two boys and get them on some fish. They've just started to take an interest in the sport and I'm trying to stoke the fire.

I fish there every once in a while. There are catfish, gar, and perch to be caught. I usually fish in my neighborhood a little further down stream or at a friends house a little farther up stream. The best bait is fresh dead shrimp or squid. I use hot dogs if I cant get my hands on shrimp or squid. Plus you could get hooked onto a redfish using shrimp. If you have anymore questions I will be glad to answer them.

What s the best method for fishing at Countryside Park? I've boated the creek here and if you get out of the channel its pretty shallow, do you guys fish the channel? How do the boat crazies and jet skiers affect things?
