I just set up my first compound bow for fishing and looking for good places to bowfish for carp, buffalo, and gar on Lewisville. Any tips on where to find em and things to know about bowfishing would be greatly appriciated. I have seen amazing numbers of them in Lakeview marina but I have not been able to find out if they allow bowfishing in the marina even if I rent a stall from them.
Is it possible to do something your whole life and still be an ameteur?

Nope, not in the marina. Corps rules h. Archery equipment for bow fishing must comply with TPWD regulations http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/pwd_lf_t3200_1559/ and will not take place within 600 feet of homes, developed parks, roads, farm and ranch yards, outlet structures, emergency spillways, or other areas.

Seen lots of gar in the cove just north of the junction between hickory creek and the main lake.

Carp, buffalo and gar are classified as rough fish. Even though some of you may eat them, they ain't edible!

CrappieAddict, It is a dead horse that is beat to death here. But your obviously new to the forum and I assume new to bowfishing. Some good info being given to you. I think a lot of people get into bowfishing not realizing some of the regulations effected by it. The wanton waste mentioned is a good one. It is really called "waste of fish" by TPWD. It is true TPWD considers Carp as edible. The question has been asked officially a number of times by forum members and myself and the answer is always the same. Despite the official stance of TPWD placing carp and gar into the edible fish category, I am sure there is still a lot of loose interpretation by some Game Wardens in the field. But IMO it is a an ongoing culture change that will cause it to be taken more and more serious by TPWD law enforcement as time goes on. So, yes, do know under the current rule interpretation, to kill them, you are required to retain and use them.

Go up in Hickory creek on the West end of the lake and have at em. The crappie need more room to move around in there. The Gar are THICK.
