my uncle recently got on a private farm pond. the farmer stocked it with bass and the population EXPLODED!!!!!!!! the farmer got a biologist out there an he has to get rid of 1200 bass. the fish have resulted to eating each other so bass colored baits have been working the best. he went out yesterdy and kept 120 fish! i am going sunday to hopefully do the same!!!

A couple of good size flatheads should dothe trick. The problem quickly becomes what do you do about the flatheads when they have cleaned out all the bass and other forage fish in the pond. One day you will go back to an empty pond with a couple of huge flatheads....not good, not good at all.

I remember a pond we rotenoned many years ago. It had only two fish of any size and a few small sunfish. A flathead catfish and a largemouth bass. Both large, but so skinny as to be almost dead. Together they'd manage to eat everything in the entire pond and were barely surviving on the few remaining diminutive fish.
Unless the goal is to have a flathead catfish, and some have that goal, it is a species to avoid in small ponds.
I wonder how large is the pond needing 1200 bass removed?
I see a lot of lakes and ponds with too many bass and too little forage, in fact that is pretty much the rule. The exception is the lake or pond with good sized, healthy bass.
Sometimes however, the goal is to have a "small bass, large sunfish" fishery, where a bunch of 12 inch bass is what is managed for.
To each his own, not everybody has the same goals and for the oddballs out there, "cookbooking" the pond off some web site or government agents list/recipe is the last thing they should do.
As above, listen to the biologist.....but also be sure the biologist understands what you want/expect from your resource.

That's crazy. I would love to fish that pond for bass, I wish I had the problem here. I did find some pretty cool info in this article about how to pick a local pond that you may not think would have any good bass fishing. Largemouth bass in local ponds Needless to say I have my rod n reel in the back of the truck 24/7
