Buddy of mine is looking at buy some land and it has a 380 acre pond on the place which they put the "&$#%" grass carp in. We fished it and it was awesome.... But we never ground the first blade of grass which concerns me. It has everything you could ask for in a pond (timber,pads, 20' drop offs) but NO grass.

Why was the grass carp ever introduced!!!!

Bow fishing is the best way, or wait around till they die of old age. If they are the sterile grass carp (who knows what was put in your pond) they are only supposed to live to be about 7 yrs old then begin dying off.

Ever think maybe its the lack of grass contributing to the good fishing? Bass do not eat grass. Lose the carp and it becomes very probable that the rest of the fish will follow if/when aquatic weeds take over.

To kill them, get them coming to feed and use poisoned feed (buy from a fish farm supply house) to kill them. Also, you can actually shoot them in the head with a .22 off a dock (shoot down, not across).

Grass carp are typically introduced into lakes and ponds as a control on unwanted aquatic weeds, which in some cases will choke a lake to death, literally. They are effective in some cases (not all) and less toxic than most chemical control methods. Grass carp recycle bound nutrients by eating the weeds. In turn production of forage fish, especialy shad and sunfish is enhanced. In a deep lake, like described, they are not as risky as a shallow lake. In my area, grass carp may result in a lake muddying up, and although I like the carp for some cases, I also know its easier tio catch bass in a weedy lake than a muddy one.

It could of had a weed problem in the past that the grass carp took care of. Why would you want to kill them if they are not doing any harm?

If the fishing is awesome, I would not #%*@* with it! In fact, use some catfish bait and catch hang on.

More than likely, for very good reason. They serve an extremely useful function in small lakes and ponds with vegetation control...without them, many folks would have to resort to toxic chemicals or face the very real possibility of having water you can't fish or use due to vegetation.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Meadowlark is right. I've seen some pretty nasty pictures of lakes with water that you could walk on due to invasive plant over-taking the lake/ponds.

Or bowfishing, both are lots of fun!!

They can be baited to the top with bread or bagels (bagels float longer) I would get them used to feeding in an area and then cast net them. I have seen it pretty often where people tend to over stock them because they thing it will lead to a better faster result.
