A mechanic that says don't add additives to your fuel is a mechanic that doesn't get my business.

Stabil ethanol treatment and ring free on every fill up. I'd spin on my head and cluck like a chicken if it keeps my motor from locking up!

A lawn care equipment shop I worked at had a standing policy to add Stabil to the fuel tanks on all equipment that came through the shop. It cut down on the bad fuel issues each year on consumer snow blowers too.

TREAT EVERY TANK WITH SOMETHING for ethanol ! A month ago I broke down smack in the middle of Lake Buchanan at sunset. I had phase separation and my fuel was 2 gallons from a week ago and 4 gallons fresh that day! I had very fresh fuel in the tank but somehow some moisture got in my tank. I discovered later it was the gas cap. Thankfully the last boat on the lake saw me and towed me 3 miles to Edgewater. I really thought I was going to spend the cold night out there. I use Star Tron now because very little is required for treatment. I also now carry a reserve tank if I'm going far out or to a remote location. Here is a picture of my incident!:) Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I use my gas often enough I do not worry about using stabil or anything like that product. I do use Quick cleen. I'll burn 50+ gallons every month. And I usually try to burn my tank down to less then a 1/4 tank when possible. I also think, no science or facts to back it up, that too much additives can cause failures. If I was storing gas for 4+ weeks in my boat I will use stabil.

Of course he is telling you to run ring free Yep! Hes ONLY going to promote something from his engine mfg. I tell all our customers with brand new to +50 year old motors to run blue stabil and ring free/ stabil for efi's and newer. I dont care if they get it from us,walmart,or academy, just as long as they run it. Alot less for them and me to do in the long run.

I was told by the tech at Mercury that for my 2010 250 XPS, mercury qickcare is all I need! One ounce to 10 gallons of gas. He told me you don't need to use Quickleen or Stabil, because Quickcare has all the additives required to treat your fuel for the E10 and to keep your rings from carboning up??
