I built a bait fish trap and tested it out today. Threw it out mid morning and by mid afternon I had 4 bream caught. I have tried gold fish several times and I have not had any luck with them so I decide to give a bait fish trap a try. A little stale bread is a lot cheap that gold fish...LOL...Anyway I was wondering what is the best size of bream to keep and use as bait. Also what is the best way to hook them? I assume for the large breams it would be best to cut them up. Any particular way to hook cut bait? I would be interested in everyones thoughts and opinions! Fish on my commrades!!!

If you are fishing for Opp (Flatheads) then I wouldn't cut them no matter how big they are. Just hook them through the upper rear part of the back (not through the spine) so they can swim. If you use them or any other fish (Carp, Buffalo, Shad etc.) as cut bait then just hook them about 1/3 down the cut and let it hang. Big fish will eat big baits. Chicken hearts are also good to use and they are relatively cheap. Good luck and fish on! BigDozer66

the perch traps for saltwater use only is a diffrent type of perch..... but there are measurements you gotta go by and not be over those if checked by a game warden.

You cannot put a perch trap in public waters... You can put one in private waters and catch all the perch and bullheads you want and still fish with them.. That is what I get from the rulebook.

I email TPWD on using a wire bait fish device and I also called them in Austin and they stated as long as it is no larger than 24 inches in length and the openings are not larger that 1 X 3 inches it is indeed legal to use on lakes.
