Everyone in the Bass world goes for that DD. What is a similar milestone with Crappie? I think 2 pounders are more common than 10 lb Bass, but maybe 3 pound Crappie are harder to get?

3#er for sure. I have caught several Bass just under 10# but never a DD. I have caught several Crappie just under 3# but just can't seem to make that famed 3# club. hammer

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Not that I wouldn't love to catch a 3lber, but for some reason when I crappie fish, the goal isn't biggest for me. I think 25! I want to limit out!

That said, if I hook a 3lber, your gonna hear me yelling from wherever you are in TX! I've caught one fish that was close, but didn't have scales. It was 19" exactly. If it wasn't 3, it was real close! It was in Lake Nacogdoches, and there were no certified scales less than an hour away. I've broken that lake's record so many times, but it seems like they always make it to the knife before they make it to scales wink

I'd say probably 3 lber. On a side note you here a lot of folks talk about how many 2 lbers they catch and they caught a 3 lber the other day. Truth is a 2 lb crappie is a heck of a lot bigger than most folks realize and I've seen lots of 1.25 lb crappie called 2 lbers. I've pulled up to people and they say they have some 2.5 and 3 lb crappie and I say wow let's see the biggest one. I tell em that it's a nice crappie but their 3 lber might go 2 lbs and they think I'm crazy. I then pull out a scale and weigh it for em and they usually weigh 1.75 to almost 2.

I think this is pretty much spot on.

I've been fishing for these critters religiously for over 16yrs in TX water now, and yet to be lucky enough to land a true 3#er. Almost isn't good enough sorta thing, my biggest is still one ounce shine....sigh!
So yeah, a 3#er in TX to me is a club on its own. Congrats to those who have done so... Hope before I lay to rest, I'll get mine...hehehe

My best crappie weighed 2.4 pounds and I caught him out of Lake Lewisville. I have never come close to 3 pounds and have only seen a 3 pounder once (caught on trotline at White Rock lake during the early 70's. I'm still looking for that 3 pounder.

Jacob, I'm betting a 19" crappie would be a good 3# fish. I caught one just shy of 16" a few weeks back and asked Guy Skinner in a personal pm and he said it would go around 2.5# if a male or closer to 3# if a female with eggs. I believe Guy knows what he is talking about so a 19" fish has to go at least 3# and you may have eaten a record!!!! How did it taste?
Just curious.

I'd also love to break the 3lb crappie barrier. I have taken a 10.59lb bass from Fork & it was a very proud day that I'll never forget. I'd love to put that elusive Crappie on my gameroom wall next to my Fork bass!

I had a 16 3/4" go 3.6 at Grenada. I couldnt imagine what a 19" fish would go!

I've caught 3 Bass over 10lbs. All while crappie fishing. The biggest I ever caught while trying was a little over 7lbs. None excited me as much as a true 3lb crappie will!!
