Great choice. I have always been a shimano guy and even with having 20 + shimanos i still have a place for my 4 ardent reels. Great smooth reels that will cast miles.

I have xs, c400 and F series ardents. The xs reel have the weight and feel of a 200b curado. They come with abec 5 bearing and out casted my 200b's. These reel are real smooth and american made. They have been closing them on the ardent web site out and are around halve price. I have not tried the edge series; they are to small for my hands.

I have 3 C400 series reels and I love them. They cast further and smoother than any other reel that I have owned...Period.
I have also purchased a tournament edge reel and have come to really enjoy it as well.
If your looking for a great reel thats made soley in America...this is your reel.
Try one!

Well, I ordered 2 of them for that price. As a long time, hard-core Shimano guy, I look forward to trying these out too.

I tried one of the edge models in LH, and it got to me with a bunch of cosmetic defects.
I spooled it up and cast it a few times before returning it (dry casting), and it seemed like it was a backlash machine on any aggressive cast. I had to turn all the brakes on to slow it down, and then it still didn't cast as well as the Daiwa Fuego (stock) that I had with me to compare it to.
The retrieve seemed far less refined than shimanos or daiwa's as well.
I didn't actually fish it, I realise this, but the backlashing and cosmetic defects made the decision to return it an easy one.
I had really hoped to like it was well, but I'm not using a substandard product just because it is made in the USA.

The only other Ardent I have is a F700 and I love it. I hope the same for the C400's.

I have a C400 I use for squarebills -- cast farther than my revos or curado, I have a tournament edge that I use for topwater -- and it outcasts the c400....I have had NO issues dialing it in as stated above!
I have also caught bass up to 9.9 lbs without issue on them!
I will continue to buy them!

I have 6 XS 1000's, they are my go to reel for just about everything except drop shotting.
