Well actually, now that I really think about it, Im not really sure. As many hundreds of thousands that fish in Texas (and alot are great fisherman), you'd think the state record would be broke already, much less the world record...?
I'm not sure..

I don't think some of you guys fully understand whats required for a bass to get to WR size. . .its not like theres a few hanging out in every lake.

Ya even a low teen sized fish is amazing but a world record takes just about perfect living conditions and genetics but still is a true freak of nature.

I've been told the longest lifespan recorded of largemouth is 13-15 years give or take in this part of the world. That being said for a fish to reach 24 pounds it would have to put on nearly 2 pounds per year and be lucky enough to not have anything cause a premature death. Then you figure the odds of a fish being that size and an angler hooking up and you can make a safe bet that we won't see a world record size fish around this part of the world. If its a well stocked lake or pond with enough forage to really fatten them up and remote to keep angling pressure down untill they have time to reach that kind of size and has a warm enough climate to promote year round growth then its possible but my bets are on south Florida, California, maybe Far south Texas around Falcon or a lake in Mexico for something that size.

has anyone ever broken off or lost a bass that they think may have been a world record? Yea, it sucks. Don't hate it when that happens. Gotta just keep on fishing.
