We made it there in about 2 1/2 hours today with some stops but no traffic from S. Austin. Fishing was slow for us but that is how prefishing goes sometimes - never really got on a pattern or caught any big ones. Did you do any better CJ? Sure was hot out there today!!

I had another great day. Caught several good fish but not the big ones I'd caught a few days before. Of course I didn't go to the same area but fished more in the Four Fingers area. Probably caught 15 keepers and several dinks. It did get real hot so I didn't stay quite as long as planned but was still a great day on the water. Had my best luck pitching smaller compact baits like a sweet beaver, larger baits didn't seem to produce as well. My partner also caught several nice fish on a spinner bait later in the day. I'll be back this Friday, let me know if you found anything else working.

All you bassers we went to Choke last Thrusday through Sunday and had a great trip. The biggest fish caugh was an eleven plus, with a seven plus and a six plus also caught. The lake is down about three feet, it was hot (90's plus) and windy.
Did not go into the Frio River. Fished Four Fingers, South Cove, Opossum, North Shore. We (twelve good fishermen) caught over two hundred pounds of keeper bass. With the winning team caughting over forty pounds (ten fish) for the day an a half. Some of the fish had not completed their spawn.
Well I hope this info helps someone. Have a good and great fisning,

Hendo Lunker fished with me and we could only get them to hit white spinner baits and brush hogs in watermelon red dip the tail on the brush hog.

18/19 March. I know Amistad is getting all the press right now but even with the wind howling both days I managed to weigh in 35 pounds for the weekend. This is really a fun lake right now.

Fishing a diff tourny than CJ - we managed 23# for our 2 day. I think it will be tougher this week bc of the coldfront but this is our report:
Fished around the Calliham dike early w/ spinnerbaits then cranked the area around the ramp then ended the day working plastics in the trees on the calm side of the dike. Spent most of our time fishing this area and caught a lot of fish on day one (about 18 keepers total and lost a lot more) but non were over 3#. Caught our better fish in 3 fingers over a grass bed on cranks on day 1 and working a wacky rig senko slow through the brush on day 2. Most fish were shallow and strong fighters.

What is the Calliham Dike? Is that the wall between the lake and the little lake in the park?
What kind of cranks were you using? Shallow runners? Large or small and what color?
I hope its not too windy this weekend. I really want to go. I have a 16' Maverick that doesn't like being out on Choke when its windy. I go to 99 bridge unless I know it won't be too windy.

The "dike" is the jetty w/ the sidewalk running down it right next to the ramp. It is a popular spot though. We were throwing small/shallow cranks - just make sure they are ticking the cover. Yea the wind out there was brutal - we took 2 waves over the bow which was not good!!

"hoke is turning on," is an understatement in my opinion, three weeks ago i'd only get 5-6 bites a day. I was at choke for the entire spring break, 7 days, and caught exxactly 150 bass(yes, i kept track, trying to beat my brother) although not all of them were keepers, with the average fish being 2-2 1/2lbs. I did manage 7 fish over 5lbs, with the biggest being 6 1/2lbs and lost one that could've beat my "PR" of 8lbs. The fishing was incredible, i fished mainly around the caliham area, and the southshore area, and never really left that area except to check out the gators!! By far the best week of my entire life, i'll be there this weekend again...hope i'm still on fire!!! Scott

Oh yeah, that dike. Thanks. I am going this Sunday. I hope they bite a spinnerbait. I actually haven't causght a bass on a spinnerbait in a long time. I used to use them more often. I hadn't thought of fishing around the dike. I usually don't fish places where bank fisherman can reach. I figure I can go somewhere else but they can't.
I will also use small cranks and soft plastics. I would think Flukes would work real well.

We had to most luck finding road beds and fishing them out with 10' worms.
