I have a contender against the manatee. Check this out. Was fishing Millwood Lake in SW Arkansas and saw this happen in live action with my dad. Yes, that is a full grown DEER in the gator's mouth. It was the most surreal thing I've ever seen and probably will ever see. Here is a little write-up my dad did on it: "Kind of long but it needs to be to tell the story. My Son and I went to Millwood today to do a little Bass fishing and we saw something we will never forget. We had been catching a few small schooling fish but with the water being about two feet high the fishing wasn't all that great. While trying to chase the schooling fish from one bank to another we noticed a Big alligator (about 10 feet long) hanging around where the fish were schooling. At one time we were within 30 feet of it, after a few minutes it started get uncomfortable with our casting and swam away. About 10 minutes later we saw another boat with two men and one woman a little ways down the bank fishing towards us and another boat with one man fishing down the bank across from us. When the boat with the 3 people in it saw us they pulled up their trolling motor started their big motor to idle past us. Just after their boat passed ours I heard the lady start hollering and I told my son that she probably had just seen the Big alligator. When I turned to look and see we too saw the gator and he was swimming at top speed. It was then that we noticed a pretty good sized Doe deer swimming across the lake too, needless to say, she did not make it to the other side. It was the biggest top water explosion of the day. We could not believe how fast the gator closed the distance, the gator grabbed the deer from behind and after about 5 seconds of splashing the gator took the deer under and did not resurface for about 8 minutes. When the gator did come back up it had the deer in it's mouth and was swimming towards the bank. I kicked the trolling motor on high and got close enough to take a few pictures. While waiting for the gator to come back up we visited with the people in the other boat and they said at first they were watching the gator and didn't really notice the deer until the gator took off after it. They too were shocked.I don't know how often an event like this takes place but I don't think I will ever get the chance to see it again and I don't know if I want to. It was really spooky and reminded us of watching a National Geographic show. We always see alligators at Millwood and always joke about it not being a good time to fall out of the boat, especially when it's a big one. It's really not such a joke now."

Wow ! the manatee and space shuttle pieces were something else. I was fishing on Castaic lake in California about three days after the Northridge Quake. We had about a 5 point aftershock. It sounded like someone knocking on the bottom of the boat. It didn't affect the bite. Once at dove loop on Grapevine I was fishing about 100 yards off the bank in a float tube. I heard splashing behind me, turned around, and a big ol beaver swam past me at arms length. He didn't let on he ever saw me, and I didn't bother him. I don't think it was Justin beaver.

Many years ago, fishing a Cleburne Bass Club, Night Tournament on Lake Limestone, It was about 3 am. My partner had layed down across the back deck for a nap. I was in an area of thick surface moss, It was a full moon night and under the moonlight I saw a big swirl in a clear pocket, back in the moss, It was a long cast away, but I threw my Buzz Bait and hit right in the middle of the clear pocket, Instantly my rod bowed over. I set the hook hard and started yelling for my partner to wake up and get the Net. I had pulled it into the thick moss, so there wasn't a lot of fight, just dead weight. When I finally pulled it alongside the boat, my partner dipped up a huge ball of moss that almost filled the dip net. He then started pulling the moss out of the net to find the Huge Bass we thought I had Caught, I began to realize that I didn't see any white in that net, like you shoud see on a big bass.(Belly) I told my partner to be careful I,m not sure it is a bass. I grabbed a flashlight, and we had a Big Nutria laying in that net. I had hooked it in the front paw with the buzz bait. Strangest part of this story, is the critter never made a sound or tried to bite or anything, it just layed there, perfectly calm, we filpped the net back over him so he could not run out into the boat, although he never tried. I put my foot on the paw with the hook in it, got my needle nose pliars and was able to pull the hook out, still without any ruckus from the nutria. After we removed the hook. Picked up the net and dumped it back into the lake. It calmly, swam away. Never a sound, growl, hiss, NOTHING. Amazing, who would of thought it. TRUE STORY!!!! Keith

I watched a deer jump off of a 4 ft ledge into the water and frantically swim across all of white oak. I don't know what it was running from but it sure didn't want to be on that side of the lake anymore.

I saw a 400+ pound man, painted blue and wearing only a diaper jogging down the trail next to where I was fishing the bank.

Cool thread, lots of gooduns. Several years ago we would go down to Islamorada. One day when the Atlantic was to ruff we went back in Florida Bay to do some backcountry fishin. Dad and uncle anchored boat in about 5' of water and started rigging up. Was about 100yds away from Cotton Key when me and my cousin noticed alot of activity around the mangroves. We decided to wade up close to bank and investigate, pretty retard since dad and uncle was chumming for shark, anywho we get up there and catch a few small snook. Heard lots of commotion back at the boat, dad was hooked up with 6' bull shark, thats when it hit us that we had to wade back in chest deep water. After releasing the bull we yelled we was heading back, no more baits in the water till we was back onboard. I was rattled heading back to say the least and got in a hurry and forgot to shuffle my feet for stingrays, next thing I know in about 4' water I step on a nurse shark bout 5' and nearly shat myself. It just swam off no worries but I danged near walked on water. Rest of day we caught several big bulls and lemons and had a huge tiger outsmart us. I dont wade in Florida anymore!

I have read some very interesting posts in this thread and thought I knew which one was most weird in my mind... however, this one takes the cake in my book. I sure hope I never see anything like this in person. Just reading about it is enough.

A huge 10 point buck swimming hundreds of yards from any shore at Richland Chambers Lake. Afraid he might become tired or distressed and curious as to where he was going we followed from a safe distance back to watch him. He hit the bank running and never looked back. Didn't realize what strong swimmers they are. He had somewhere he wanted to be .

Fishing on Quitman years ago we went up the creek on the upper end (had to lay down in the bottom of the boat to get under the bridge) me and my buddy were talking about how snakey it looked ,when we fished around a creekbend we saw lots of minnows jumping out of the water onto the bank.We got up closer to see and there were about a dozen water mocassins herding and pushing the minnows out of the water! We watched for awhile as each snake would go in and attack the minnows and then another would take his place while the other snakes kept the minnows pinned in! We thought it was cool to watch, until we headed back out and had to duck under several low hanging willows and the bridge!

Night fishing the Tombigbee Waterway on the Alabama/Mississippi border about 15 years ago. There was an area with a few houses around the bank, and I would flip the timber at night because I could see a little with the lights from the houses.
So one night I am fishing and I hear this dog up on the bank going crazy. He is tied to his dog house with a length of rope. Next to his house is a bowl of dog food.
So this dog is bristled up and acting like it is going to chew something's face off so I motor over a little closer and I see this big beaver stumbling toward the dog. The dog is at the end of his rope just waiting for the beaver to get close enough. Well, when the beaver got close enough, the fight was one. Blood and fur everywhere, but it didn't last long. The mean old dog finally jumped up on top of his house to lick his wounds. The beaver ate all his food then calmly walked back over to the water and dove in.
Then the beaver spots me. I know this beaver is like the Chuck Norris of water rodents so I keep an eye on him. He commences to smacking the water with his tail all around my boat until I finally decide to leave because the fish would all be spooked.
As I motored away, I noticed the dog was still on top of his house.

I was fishing lake Alan Henry several years ago and I kept hearing a scraping noise along the rocky bank. I was a pretty good distance away and my curiosity got the best of me so I trolled closer. I thought I was looking at an old scraggly dog that was rubbing his mud caked coat against the rocks but to my surprise it was a big freakin gray porcupine. LOL!

I was 8 and my dad and i were at Lake Fork. We were deadsticking senko's in lily pads so naturally, being 8, I grabbed a quick snack. While I was eating we saw a six poundejump and my rod started scooting toward the lake. I grabbed it and told my dad the fish was wrapped around a lily pad stem. After trying unsecessfully to get her unhung my dad took off his shirt and jumped into 4' of water. My dad said the fish swam right up his body and he grabbed it like a football.
