IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!

WE WILL GTG!!! laugh Camping at Murrell is still a GO!
Neumie & I were at Murrel park tonight. We spoke to the park staff & officials. Although lake levels have been estimated to be close to normal on Saturday, Murrel Park Ranger Tim has requested that we not use the still closed ramp/peninsula/parking lot. Obviously we have agreed not to. He & the staff offered us this solution...

We move the GTG to TWIN COVES PARK

This RV Park is just WEST of Murrel Park (different entrance) TWIN COVES RV PARK boarders Murrel Park but has a different entrance off of Twin Coves Park Road. It is Approx 100 yards or less as the crow flies from Murrell Park & borders it & literally a few miles by road. This is favorable because, it is close to Murrell & we understand it is better kept than Murrel & has better facilities & no entry fee!
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/grapevine/access.phtml#pointe
IMO it is such a short drive from Murrel park, that it will still be convenient for those of us camping at Murrell Park this weekend. We will know for sure in the AM & will post all TWIN COVES GTG info ASAP! Neumie has volunteered to look this area over for us in the AM as the park was already closing by the time we could get a look tonight.

DFW kayak Anglers WE WILL GTG Saturday at TWIN COVES RV PARK!!! thumb

Maps are being made now & <-signs-> have already been donated for our event by Arlington Signs & Designs and will be posted for directing traffic. clap

I'll also point out that the campers could easily paddle over to Twin Coves park whenever they anted to come over.

Confused...Sorry.
Are they saying move to Twin Coves RV park?
I've been all over the lake, but never been in there. Seems small-ish (facilities-wise) for a large group. Was just looking on Bing maps - http://binged.it/I7JqET
But the fishin's good up in those creeks by the marina - especially since they are full smile

Anyway, according to TPWD link, it says to take fm 1187 to whereever, but that is a mistake - it's 1171, not 1187.
1171 travels east-west from Justin area to Flower Mound. 1187 is the road I used to take to Benbrook...not quite the same place smile

==============================
Twin Coves RV Park

From Cross Timbers Road (FM 1187) (actually 1171) take Old Settlers Road south to McKamy Road, McKamy west to Simmons Road, Simmons north to Wichita Trail, Wichita west to Twin Coves Park road, south on park road to ramp.
Two-lane ramp with parking for 10 vehicles
Accessible fishing pier
Open all year; facilities normally restricted to overnight guests
Operated by Marinas International (972) 539-1030

Thnxs JT & U R correct.
We must move the GTG to The TWIN COVES RV PARK. Nothing is different other than this. OUR GTG is still happening this Saturday on Grapevine just a few minutes from Murrell park at TWIN COVES RV PARK not MARINA!

Still happening this Saturday at 8:am on Grapevine Lake. TWIN COVES is just a few hundred yards from hippie point in my estimation & the Murrell and TWIN COVES RV PARK boarder touch each other.

You can GPS or google Twin Coves Park Rd. Flower Mound, Texas.

Should be nice for those camping at hippie point. They can paddle/peddle/sail on over to Twin Coves RV Park.

Murrell park said you guys got all the camping spots noW!!! wAY TO go!!! thumb

I'll ask first.....Is this really necessary? Having the camp site and activities within easy walking distance was a good idea. I know it's not far, but still not convenient if you need to go back to your camp to get something you forgot or refill the ice chest, etc. Also, how many people really use the boat ramps?

Just received confirmation! We are in fact moving our GTG this Saturday to "TWIN COVES RV PARK".

This is one park to the west from Murrell Park.

It is just a few miles West of Murrell off of "Twin Coves Park Rd." by road using google & GPS. This park is still in Flower Mound. We have signs that will be posted very early Saturday AM that will help point the way! Murrell Park entry office can also help give directions if needed & they will have maps for anyone that shows up there. Someone will be at the Murrell gate that can direct you to TWIN COVES RV PARK not THE MARINA. Maps and help will be available all day long! Remember you can also fallow the "Kayak Angler GTG -> signs wink

Once you enter Twin Coves Park, it should become increasingly obvious where we are at. Look for the yaks and 10x10 canopies by the water. Someone will also be there early to help point the way as we get set up as well. We think The water surrounding Twin Coves is more protected from the winds and is just a short paddle/drive from Murrell's hippie point (where most will be camping)

Thank you ALL & we look forward to seeing you there thumb

Sorry, but at this late date and time, I think it's a bad idea. Now we have to scramble to get messages to all the non TFFers that were coming that we are moving the location, we have to change up camping at one location and moving all our kayaking displays over to Twin Coves....I think this should have been handled some other way. Is the problem that Hippie Point is part way under water?

NO OTHER OPTION. Head Park Ranger will not allow us to use the area.

Believe me, I understand your concerns. We wanted to use Murrell park area to GTG but its not going to happen because its not our call. This decision has been made for us by the Army Corp of Engineers main office.

Maps & signs will be available & posted for to help everyone out. Although Murrell Park is no longer an option for our main event, folks will still be hanging out all weekend there. The maps above show a red line where mountain bikers and hikers ride and walk between the parks. Thats how close they are. Their borders actually touch. IMO we are fortunate to have this options. Times, events & Camping are still the same. It will be an inconvenience at most for some, But NOT for ALL. Please stay positive!!! We are working hard to make OUR GTG good for everyone!
Thanks for understanding!

I agree with moving the GTG to Twin Coves as Murrell Park boat ramp will be CLOSED this weekend due to high waters. Twin Coves is the best option as it is the closest to Murrell Park. I am sure this was a hard call for organizers to make logistically as everyone is camping pretty much close to Mureil Park, but as Zombie mentioned the Army Corp made the decision to keep Murrell Park boat ramp closed.

IMO, Twin Coves has more room & better restroom facilities for our GTG anyways. Murrell only has ONE port-A-potty available for use.
