Summertime fishing is picking up early this year. Yesterday afternoon we had 40 big keeper whites and 32 keeper crappie and the day before we had 25 big whites and 35 good crappie. The water is real clear for this time of year and the crappie are in both shallow and deep holes also.

Hey Crappie1. Have you been catching most of your crappie on jigs or minnows? Since the water has cleared up, I have not had much luck on jigs, only minnows.

I am only using jigs. When the water clears up go to the smaller 1/32 oz. jigs and they will work better. Solid chartreuse is best for the clear water. The water muddied up after the storm last week and still has not cleared up. If the wind stays calm for a few days it will get clear again. The cleared the water, the deeper you need to fish and the muddier the water the shallower you need to fish. Clear-12 to 15 ft. and muddy-6 to 8 ft.

Janitor,
Yes there are some places up the river. You put in at the primitive ramp up river or at box #7 and fish around the big stumps that line the river channel. I know some crappie fishermen that only fish that pattern. They are fishing from regular boats though.

Crappie1,

Are you catching the whites at the same place you are catching the crappie? I took my boys out Saturday evening to try and catch a few whites on the humps infront of the dam, but no luck. Any suggestions?

They are on the humps out from the dam. You just have to look for the fish that are larger in size. Most are too small to take a lure. Trolling a samll crankbait might help you locate them. I know exactly where the humps are that hold the larger fish and don't have to troll. Good luck.

Can you guys recommend a good area to tube fish on Granger?

It'll be this weekend/labor day, so I'll need to stay clear of recreational boats.
