We had a real busy weekend with Easter, choir activities, and sports, but I got to put in a little bit of time fishing with the kiddos. We didn't want to go far so Saturday night we went out to Bowman Springs Park on LA. After picking about a dozen tiny yellow bass out of the net we got enough shad to do some catfishing.
Got all the rods out, kids were chasing each other around playing and not paying much attention to fishing, when after about 15 minutes of waiting Rod #3 takes a solid dip. I start to get up and go get it when I notice my middle daughter saw the rod too. She must have been keeping an eye on the rods after all. She rushes over, drops to one knee and cranks down on the reel until she has a solid hook up. The fish is fighting but she keeps steady pressure on it and gets it all the way in, at which point she leans over the rail and lifts it over the fencing and rocks so it doesn't get hung up.
She did everything just like I taught her and I didn't have to say one word to her. All of my kids have caught some nice fish before but usually with a little bit of help or guidance. She obviously needed niether one. She knew exactly what she was doing. I was so proud.

Then about 10 minutes later her little brother sees a rod take a dip and runs over and snatches up the rod and tries to set the hook like he is Kevin Van Dam. *facepalm*

The bite was pretty slow but there was enough action to keep them watching the rods after that first one. Couple of dinks landed. We packed it in pretty early so nobody would be falling asleep in church Easter morning.

Here is my Emma with her big fish:

Religion is a guy in church thinking about fishing. Relationship is a guy fishing thinking about God!

Yes indeed good times! Priceless moments that will be in your heart and mind from now on. Took my son fishing Friday, Saturday, and Monday. We have a great time together! Nothing like sharing time together with your kidos.

What has happed to you does not define who you are-

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!
