I am looking to get more familiar with river camp fishing somewhere close before I attempt the devils river. I noticed there is a launch site by the Damn and a pickup spot at 19 mile marker and another one around the 40 mile mark. Would the 19 mile pickup be around a two day trip. Plus if anyone has any river fishing advise please let me know.

19 miles in two days wont leave much fishing time. The 23 miles on the Devils I have done in two nights and 3 days and that does not leave enough time to really fish it right.

As yaknfin eludes to, it depends if you want to fish or not. You could cover the 19 miles in two days, but there will be little time for fishing and to enjoy your camp. We commonly make it a two night trip, stopping at about mile 7 - 8 and 14 respectively for the two nights. Leaves plenty of time to enjoy the paddle, fish the first 4 miles hard (best striper fishing), and to be able to set up camp late afternoon both days to have time for your fire, dinner, and a little night fishing or a beverage around the camp fire.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
