Hardly any action from the birds, light white bass runs resulting in a about 6 really small ones. Caught 4 lmb only one being slot the rest too small to count. All caught on baby brush hogs watermelon seed and dark red with flake. White bass on slabs. Lots of people on the lake and jet skis are already getting out of hand. Lots of shad in the coves.
I fished the cove just north of silver lake.

also the water temp in the cove was about 72-74, pretty warm. note once again, silvewrlake marina was out of Minnows, thats my 3rd trip there on 3 seperate days for minnows just to be denied by the only place on the lake that sells them. I think they need to ramp up thier buying as this is the time the demand is there. So call ahead if you are going there for minnows, there is a good chance they are out.

Yes they sell minnows. $2.50 a dozen. Is that steep for minnows? I went ahead and paid it on Sunday.

My buddy and I tore the sand bass up on Sunday, which was a good thing since we stunk it up fishing for largemouth. We found birds working in several areas of the lake. One area we started at had birds working, but even when they quit, the fish kept biting. Dont know how many we caught but it was a bunch, we left them biting to go pursue the LMB...should have stayed with the sandies. Jigging spoon bounced off the bottom worked the best, although a chrome rattle trap did well also.

$2.50 per doz. for quality minnows is about as cheap as I have seen them. They (the prices) are affected greatly by fuel prices and we know what is happening there. Jigs are getting cheaper, in comparison, all of the time.

Sunday we found birds working the flower mound side of the lake. It's the first time my son and I have been to this lake or fished for sand bass. We caught 21 fish in 3 hrs. catch n released. They were hitting on silver rattle traps.

I believe they are $1.75/dozen at the Diamond Shamrock in Roanoke, if I remember correctly. It's about five minutes from Marshall Creek Park on the SW side of Grapevine. Not convenient for those coming from Dallas, but it just happens to be on my way out there. It's a self-serve kinda deal, so it's highly possible to get more than you pay for!

I found a minnow seine, partner and a pair of shorts will do the trick. lol. we would of went broke Tuesday if were to buy all the minnows we used. My brother n law and I tore into the Sandies out at Meadowmere. 16 keepers. If I knew how to post pictures on here id show you the stringer full Between the ones we threw back and kept we went through about 100 minnows.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.
