Epic: Started out chasing sandies till 9 am, with 30 mag 15 Plus inchers In the live well, with 10-14 inchers, thrown back to grow. This looks like a good year for Lavon. Fish are big this year. After the sandies stopped chasing the shad around, we went after crappie. They were hiding. So, off to the sand bass again. Got to the daytime spot about 10 AM. Boxed the rest of the 2 man limit in minutes. Proceeded to land a fish on every cast for 2 hours. Client got bored and decided to try crappie one more time..... Nadda/ Dropped them off at 1 pm. While I was waiting for my buddy to get there, I hit a grass flat and caught 7 crappie in 15 minutes. Johnathan called and said we was at the dock, so I grabbed him and went back to the flats, 3 dinks. Hit some more grass and NADDA. Freakin Crappie. They moved Collin Park Back to the cove. Wierd. It was there in AM, not in the PM. Went back to the Sand Bass Hole, and John and I limited in 45 mins or so. Every single cast, from 3 pm till 630pm, landed or pulled off a sandie. Every cast. -Left them biting. Over 500 sandies today....

I don't know what the deal is with the Lavon crappie this year. I find it hard to believe they have already spawned. At least the sandies are hitting. Seems last year stock have grown a couple of inches this year. Your clients seem happy and that is all that matters.

I have to agree on the Lavon sandies this year. I have been shocked at the size, none of those Twok size but definately better than the past couple of years. Now if we can just keep the bank fisherman from keeping everything they reel in no matter how small maybe it would sustain for a couple of years. If I call the GW when I see them keeping everything I wonder if they would actually come out and do something. They always seem to have time to stop me several times a year to check for life jackets and fishing licenses but I have not seen them around checking the bank fisherma even once. It drives me crazy when I see it but I don't want to get in a pissing match over some fish and someone end up shot. I just wish there was more enforcement out there sometimes.

The wardens will come if you call.
Game Warden Martin: (214) 886-4074
Make sure when u call, you know for a fact they are taking under sized fish and not just yellow bass.

I'll bet the sand bass on a fly rod is a LOT of fun! May have to try that later in the year when they are surfacing.
Looks like happy customers.

Nice catch! Ive fished lavon every spring in april and early may during the shad spawn, ever since ive been in dfw. Thats the only time I find the sandies are bigger, lots of 12-14" and occasional 15". Fun and easy catching! The rest of the year there seems to be mostly 9 inchers like someone mentioned. My theory is they go down stream to hubbard as they grow bigger so I follow them. Lol

Today was the same. Tried for the crappie, but my attention span was very small today. Caught 11 crappie in 3hrs from the boat. Should have gotten out and picked them out of the willows, but I was being lazy today. So I got bored and decided the Sand Bass needed some more attention today. They are on fire if you know where and how to do it. 15 ft-22 ft. Small jigs and small slabs. Glass house is rocking before sundown and right after sun up. They are eating shad in the AM at the collin park tires till 9 am as well. Dont fish deeper than 5 ft when at the tires.

Thanks for the report and the tips on where to look. Maybe I can get Mart to go to Lavon this weekend. From reading reports on here NOW is the time to go to your favorite lake, sounds like sandies are back from the spawn, all schooled up and extremly hungry.

I fish most of the area lakes, I like Lavon because it is close and not as much boat traffic as other lakes. If you have a back seat open and need a partner let me know, be glad to pay for gas and bring food/water. What kind/color boat do you have so I will know what to look for. I am easy to spot - old guy with lots of white hair.
