Well it's gettin to be that time of year. Where the channels are spawning and on the rocks and other spawning locations where the slip cork rig is efficient. I've done it before, though I'm not experienced on it. So what's yalls favorite slip corks to use doing this, and/or rig set up while doing it? Pictures of rigs are more than welcome! Thanks!

What size slip cork? What action rod?

I like a longer rod for slip corks (helps with taking up line and hookset) I also like to use as small a bobber as I can. Generaly I wont slipcork unless im fishing more than 5' down, otherwise I just use a stationary bobber.

I put the desired bobber on my main line followed by an appropriate sized egg sinker and barrel swivel then leader and hook. I use a piece of 40lb mono to put a knot around the main line at the desired depth I want to fish for a bobber stop and trim tag ends.

Im sure there are other ways but its cheap and works.

What do you use for bait for channels when they're spawning and on the rocks?

Lots of choices there but I usually just stick to punch/dip baits or fresh shad for bait (normally shad because it's less messy).

I like to use a 6 to 7 foot spinning rod with 35 or 50 lb. test braided line. Add on a 3" cigar shaped slip cork, 1/4 oz egg sinker or worm weight, swivel and a 6" leader with 17 lb test mono with a #6 VMC 4x strong treble hook on the business end. Braided line works well when fishing a cork because it floats and has no memory. Mono has a tendency to coil and sink at times. The spring of the coils will pull your rig out of the strike zone and also cause you to have too much slack in your line. Every time you reel in the slack, the coils pull the rig back to you even faster.

I just got some Spiderwire EZ Braid to put on a Daiwa 1600, and I'm going to get some slip bobbers today and try it out tomorrow and see how it works.

I like whisker getter catfish bait. I use a big comal peggable bobber, and I peg 4-5 small split shot under the cork, and set it about 3' deep. Use whatever hook u want. The hook has to have no weight making it sink

Best slip float is the Comal Tackle Durafoam. It outperforms all others and is a fraction of the price of most.

I'll take 10-12 lb mono over braid every day and twice on Sunday. I recent tried giving braid another shot and it still sucks.

My rig is a little different but simplicity itself. For catching cats on the rocks I like to use 10-12 foot cane poles rigged with 20lb braid to a swivel. The line from the tip is about 13 feet long. I use 8" 6 pound leaders attached at the swivel to a number 8 or 10 treble hook with a split shot about 4 inches above the hook. I have been using Catfish Charley dough bait but am now wondering if that stuff grows old because I haven't been catching anything lately. Stuff still stinks like poop though.Forgot-there is a slip float, a needle type, attached at whatever depth I need. Usually 3-7 feet.
