Okay, so just got my Navionic SD card and the three page pamphlet that comes with it says I can pull up maps on my PC to view and place waypoints etc..., but I cannot figure out how this is done. I assume I need viewing software, but cannot find it on the Navionics site. Incidentally, they say you can upgrade your maps by just "plugging in your chart and the rest happens by itself". I'm not seeing that happen either.
Might be good maps, but their information on "how to" is certainly lacking. Any insight as to how to do these things?

Be careful about putting your hotmaps chip on your computer. I hooked mine up to my computer while it was still in my GPS and the computer added some file to it and it wouldn't work any more. I called Navionics and they said that to protect the chips from being copied and redistributed, the chips are unusable if they are tampered with. I did explain what i did and they eventually sent me a replacement one year newer than the one that I had bought. Food for thought.

We bought the Navionics Hot Maps CD that can be downloaded to your computer. You can transfer way-points back and forth with the program. It isn't over $20 to get. I have it on all of my computers. We have had an issue with some way-points being off a little bit. My son has played with it a little more than me and learned to overlay things onto it.
I have a Navionics card reader that I plug my Hot Maps Platinum SD card into, to do all of my updates and such. I don't think the SD card will pull up on the computer other than to update. You have to have a separate SD card to transfer way-points back and forth with the Navionics download I mentioned.

Thanks all. Sure would be nice to have some of that information on their web site. The brochure is certainly misleading as well as lacking.

When you get the card reader it is still kinda hard to transfer weigh points and everything. Its says in there not to put it in your computer that you need the card reader and its like 100 bucks if I remember right. GOOD LUCK

You'll have to buy the Navionics Software to read card. I used Mapcreate several years ago that also read the maps. have to get a SD card reader. http://www.navionics.com/Default.asp Run a search to get better prices on the Nav Planner.

Please PM me hopefully I can help walk you thru the process. You get a free PC app when you purchase the chart. The freshest data updates and the pc app are all done thru navionics.com. The card reader is for assiting in the update process and helping you transfer information from the computer to the plotter and from the plotter to the computer. Remember DO NOT try to put any information on the Navionics chart card. Buy a generic SD card to use as the vehicle to transfer info.

I purchased it seperate because my 2010 card was purchased a while ago and I got it from someone else, so no updates, but that PC app is really great. I use it alot before heading to a new lake.
