We went out Saturday for our yearly trip to this beautiful lake and was pleasantly surprised. We used to fish this lake quite often in the first decade it was opened. But since TPWD does not make this lake a priority for stocking, the fishery has diminished considerably. So our expectations were to catch a couple of fish apiece and enjoy the scenery.

Day started cloudy and 48. Winds were light. Gave way to rain later. Sorry I cannot give water temps as our temp gauge bought the big one. But generally this lakes' water temp will mirror Travis. Water clarity was clear in river (surprising) to very clear on main lake.

Headed to river channel and worked every little cove we could find. Found one narrow cove holding a bunch of fish. Saw fish on beds in the very back. We worked the mouth and caught 3 with the largest being about 17", all males. Moved to the next cove and caught one little buck about half way back. Hit the last cove moving out of river and not a one.
Started to hit coves on the main lake and started to catch fish again. In one area we caught 8, all bucks and around 15-16". We missed at least
a dozen more, all in this one area. Ended the day with 12 caught and at least 2 dozen missed. The missed ones were mostly on very small spinnerbaits when we were looking for water that held bass. We could see the hits, but they were striking with their mouths closed. Good sign they were on beds and just pushing the baits around. Tried not to disturb bedding bass but when located, we would move out a little and look for the bigger ones. I believe the spawn has just started here as we did not get a bite from a big femme. We didn't even see a really BIG fish swimming around, so our thoughts were the big ones have not moved shallow yet. All beds we saw were in the beginning stages and located very close to cover. We used only small white spinners to find fish and then switched to plastics in watermelon/chart to catch them.

All in all, we had a very nice day for a Georgetown trip. There were more boats on the lake than we expected but most seemed to be heading up river to look for whites. Didn't see anyone catch any but then wasn't paying that much attention since we were catching. We would go back, but there are better waters to fish. Just wanted to experience some nostalgia. There are some good fish there, but very hard to find and catch.
