check to see if the throttle is opening all the way. it will take two people. one to press the gas the other to look at the butterflies to see if they are horizontal.

Check high pressure pump fuel pressure. Running engine with low fuel pressure will cause bad things to happen. I would not run it again at WOT until problem is found. Cary

Sounds to me like you have one cylinder not firing. I'd have the thing checked.

I rode in a 518VS about 10 years ago that had one cylinder go down. It lost one coil and it ran about 52 at full throttle.

Thats about what she will run 50 to 53. Seems to crank and run fine other than that.

Have you changed the screw on fuel filter? Had a 175 Ficht Doing same thing last year. Tryed a lot of things but turned out to be the big fuel filter.

I changed the filter but I havent had a chance to run it, but I did check the plugs last night and noticed that 1 of them seemed to be a lot cleaner than the rest. Which leads me to believe the cylinder is not firing. just curious if this means a bad coil or a dropped cylinder. Any ideas.

i agree with allison1

at an idle it's hard to notice a cylinder not firing on those mota's.

have some one hook up a spark tester to see if one or two cylinders are not firing.

bethcya it's just a coil.

Good info on trouble shooting , it does sound like a cylinder issue.
