I was on the lake when all the news helicopters started hovering over by rockledge park today. Someone wiped out on their jet ski and never resurfaced this afternoon. I heard a preliminary report that the driver wasnt wearing a life jacket but I can neither confirm or deny that. Nearly all the drownings at Grapevine come in the same area, Rockledge Park, when the wind is blowing. There are ledges under the water over there that create a MASSIVE uneder tow. How many have to die before they do something to warn people about that cove and section of main lake? There was a drowning last year in the same area, a guy that was said to be an excellent swimmer disapeared in 6 foot of water. If your gonna swim or do water sports onthe Vine it would be wise to do it anywhere on the lake other than Rockledge Park.

The news reported that his wife was on a jetski and that there was an extra life jacket with her. If he left the jacket and decided to swim for help, well, I will not speak ill of the dead. But you know what I am thinking.

If I am not mistaken did't a woman die on Lewisville a few weeks back. June is not even here yet and the tragedies are mounting up. Every time I go to the lake I see someone breaking the rules or driving recklessly on the water. I refuse to go to the lake on the weekends. It is just too dangerous.

It is sad and such a tragedy. You see this type of news and you wonder why. Sort of like when you see the people drive into high, fast moving water.
"Search resumes for man who fell from Jet Ski"
DOMINGO RAMIREZ JR. Star-Telegram Staff Writer
GRAPEVINE - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department continued its search Wednesday morning for a man last seen falling from a Jet Ski in Lake Grapevine Tuesday afternoon.
Game wardens are searching the lake between Rockledge Park and Scotts Landing Marina for the man. He had a life jacket on, but took it off when he started to swim, said Capt. Scott Haney of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Divers are not being used because authorities were unclear on where the man was last seen, Haney said.
Its at least 50 feet in some areas, Haney said.
The man and a woman were riding a Jet Ski when it flipped over about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The woman, who authorities did not identify, was trapped in the water where the Jet Ski overturned because of high winds and choppy water, witnesses said.
Officials rescued the woman, but she was too shaken to tell them much, authorities said.
The woman told police that the man had tried to swim to shore just as she had attempted to do, authorities said.

it sucked. i talked to the young girl but had a hard time communicating as she was in shock and my spanish is so so. we tried all we could to find the guy, never wet a line and burned all of the gas out of the boat. from what i got out of it the guy fell off the back somewhere and didnt know how to swim(but i could be wrong) so our search area was basically from the dam to twin coves. i can still see the look on her face when we told the rescue boat she was on that we had no more fuel and had to put the boat on the trailer. me and another guy in a nitro basically did a grid search staying about a hundred feet apart and working our way west. the lake was very rough that afternoon on the north side.

First: Sorry about the loss of life and the families involved.
Second: While we're thinking about it, does anyone other than me have issues with Fun & Ski (is that the name of the place) renting boats and jet skis to people that have no idea how to ride/drive water craft? Isn't that an "accident" just waiting to happen?

You are a good man David... And Jeff is right Jet Ski's are accidents waiting to happen. Even if you are prudent in using one they are the equivilant of a motorcycle. My kids and wife are constantly sugesting we buy one I saw a pretty nasty fist fight at Joe Pool this morning between and jet ski pilot and a fisherman... Unfortuantely the angler was in the wrong on this one and is probably trying to post bail right now... I know for a fact now that chunking a lure at another boat or any craft is considered felony assualt in Texas...
