I have been going to Port A for several years mainly during Springbreak to fish and hang out with my snowbird in-laws.
Last June 2011, we decided lets go to Rockport...and all week we had 40-60MPH winds. The boat never left the marina.
My question is: When have you had your BEST fishing and weather trips?
May, June - windy, July, August, September.
Thanks

March & April are normally windy months here, you'll catch a calm day or two in there though. The Summer months are normally outstanding, but it's gonna be hot. That heat can be your friend or your enemy. It really all depends on what type of fishing you want to do. The wind is often unpredictable even during the "good months". I've had some awesome trips in the wind too & had the place all to ourselves...

Anytime I can get away...but generally April or May, depending upon the wind.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

Summer weather and high pressure normally settles into place by about July 4th. June is a transitional month and is typically hit or miss. Spring (Feb, March, April, May) are typically very windy months. Sept/Oct are host to a lot of great fish migrations from the bay to the open ocean. The town is also not near as crowded. It's my favorite time. The summer vacationers are mostly gone, kids are back in school, and the snooty snow birds haven't arrived yet.

Talked to someone yesterday that says blue water is roughly 70 miles off Port A.

Should have been out there two weeks ago. Dont let the blue water set the tone for you. You gota look at the bait in the water. I limited out in Smacks two days in a row. Largest measuring 28 inches off the jetties. And you could catch them all the way to the second sand bar. Even saw what looked like Bonita breaking the water. I would add the pics, but they arent being hosted. Good luck!

Sept Oct for me... but down there you kida gotta expect the wind to blow all the time.. last year was really bad for wind, worse than other years.
Like dmanars said, don't worry about the color of the water, find the bait, look for slicks, some sign of fish being present. good luck. oh, there are way less people on the water after Sept 1... kinda makes it nice.

I'll go anytime, but September-November are my favorite. If I had to pick a month it would be October. Mainly for the same reasons stated by LP. The weather has cooled, the bay has freshened up, bait is still plentiful, fish are happy, and so am I!
