A business associate who lives in La is retiring to Texas and is looking at either the Cedar Creek Res or Lake Palestine to settle down.

Based solely on fishing, which is the better option?

Thanks, a man's happiness could depend on your ansewer fish

Tough call really, they both have excellent fish populations for many species; crappie, sandbass, hybrids, catfish and bass (and Palestine has some mega bluegills too). Cedar Creek is a much easier lake to navigate for the most part since it does not have the standing timber that Palestine has in it. However, overall, Palestine is a less crowded lake during the summer months. Cedar Creek has a LOT of pleasure boat traffic whereas Palestine pleasure boating is limited to the southern end of the lake and limited areas north of the bridge for skiing and such. Personally I like Palestine better but that's just me. I just think it's a prettier lake, surrounded by forested areas and is also close to Tyler if you need "big city" conveniences and hospitals.

If it was only limited to those two lakes, I would definitely choose Palestine.

Both are great lakes, what does he fish for? Palestine would be an old crowd lake during summer months, Cedar Creek is closet boathouse allowing lake to Dallas that brings in family lake houses from Dallas. I have a place there now but will retire to Richland Chambers in 30 years.

Palestine - Tyler is a much better area for everything, not much around Cedar Creek.

I haven't been on Palestine much but Cedar Creek in the summer is insane! Big boats and jet skis everywhere and you can get some really big waves on it if the wind is blowing the right direction. My mother-in-law lives at Star Harbor and I hate going to the lake. Not to mention it's rarely full. But if he likes golf Star Harbor has a 9 hole golf course which is nice.
If it was me I would try to get him to consider Fork!

Thanks for all the info guys. He looked hard for a place at Fork but could not find a place that fit his needs after 6 months of looking. I think that he has decided that Palestine is the next place to start looking.

Again, thanks for all the posts and info.

As far as wind and waves are concerned, a strong north or south wind makes life horrible on both of these lakes as that is their general layout (north / south). I've seen them both when they looked like the Gulf of Mexico and you were severely limited as to where you could run around safely (or comfortably). Having said that, both lakes have some big coves that run east and west too so you can usually trailer to those areas to launch and still fish when the wind is strong.

I live on Palestine and love it and the area. Based only on
fishing, Cedar Creek is better, and Tawonki is better still.

I am basing this on personal experience and the fact that
Twonk and CC support many full time guides. Palestine, not so
much. They don't call it the "Dead Sea" for no reason.

When Lake Pal is on, it can be a good as any, when it is
off, you can not buy a bite.

Tell him to buy at Lake Tyler and then he is close to Palestine as well as Fork, T-Wok and Caddo.

If your a fisherman,Lake Palestine but, if your a jet skier, water skier, wave maker or heavy drinker and hell raiser then Cedar Creek is your paradise.
