Someone just told me that Hummingbird is buying Lakemaster Maps. Can anyone confirm this?
Some healthy competition in the mapping industry would be nice! It just might improve customer service!

Humminbird definitely own Lakemaster now. In fact, their new maps only work with Humminbird. A lot of nice features with their maps that make them worth owning. Just bought a bird myself and I plan to get the Lakemaster map along with the Navionics map.

Bought a Lakemaster last week and I really like it..When I bought my HB998 I ordered it with the Navionics Bundle and the bundle maps are as basic as you get. Never order a HB-NVB, you will hate the maps. And they won't show the Mexico side of Amistad or Falcon.

Only reason I will have both is that the Lakemaster chip doesn't cover as many lakes as the Navionics chip. Until they get better coverage I'll have to have both.

Humminbird no longer offers the NVB bundle and yes the coverage in that unit was a base map just as any other unit. The Navionics Premium and Platinum chart have 1' contours on both the US and Mexico side of Falcon, the only chart to have that detail. Lakemaster is a good product however I think you will see that the coverage and the number of HD lakes in the Navionics chart is considerably more and you get free updates for a year with the Navionics chart to get the Freshest data. Once you buy a Lakemaster it is what it is and the only way to get any updates is to but a new version. There have already been 2 versions of the Texas Oklahoma chart.

How many updates in a year do you think Navionics will have for my lakes? One maybe two then after that I still have to buy new card? Not going to give up the features of lakemaster for that!

Navionics updates will stop after they bring their maps back to what they used to be. The are also adding a bunch of junk that isnt really there. For example the culvert symbol on every creek / rd intersection.

Navionics is trying to use the free updates for a year as a marketing strategy... that being said how much can they update within a year on a map? go look at the maps from years past and you will see that they have not actually gotten that much better... that being said in my opinion their free year of updates is a waste and pointless to a consumer but to each their own...
btw I have 2008 navionics chips
