I've been fishing for about a year. I've really been struggling these last few months. My b-day is coming up and was going to get a reel but now I'm thinking I need the knowledge more. So maybe I need a guide.

The question is: Do I find a guide on my home lake, Grapevine. Or do I go to Lake Fork. I'm sure there are major advantages to both. I'm not looking for a trophy bass, I'm looking for fishing knowledge. If we (my son and I) got a guide on Fork and learned, would that knowledge work well on Grapevine too? My main goal is to catch more fish this year.

Is this a good time of year to go on a guided trip?

Last question: If you guys say Fork is the way to go, What guide? I've read a lot about Mark Pack, seems friendly and knowledgable. Is he someone I should talk to?

Thank you very much. Your help would be very appreciated.

Brandon

I don't think you can go wrong with any guide at Fork. All are very knowledgeable and will teach you more in a day than you can learn in years on your own. Pack is probably booked for the near future, in that case I would suggest James Henderson, Ronnie Kelly, or James Caldemyer. Any way you go I'd suggest getting a guide.

Personally, I think if you are seeking to learn more you should definitely go with a guide on your home lake. You learn the types of baits, tactics and specific areas on the lake you will be fishing most of the time. You can also pick his brain on what type of water to find fish in during different times of year and different weather conditions.

You might also look at joining a local bass club. Nothing like fishing with differiant people and learning from each other.

Thank you for the advise, I'll definitely be talking to those guys. Jpost - I didn't even think about that. I'll start looking for a club as well. Thanks
