I rarely rig with a size 6 hook, but there are times that I do. Greenies and Warmouths have more than enough mouth to take that size hook, so if I'm targeting them specifically, I'm more likely to use a hook that size.
I mostly use a size 8 or smaller. Just really depends on the situation. Bigger plastics or bulkier bait = bigger hook. Micro plastics or smaller bait = smaller hook. A thicker diameter hook (like most baitkeeper hooks) will tear up a cricket or grasshopper and aren't well suited for delicate plastics. A hook with a wider gap will more effeciently find its home when fishing with bulkier plastics and baits.
A smaller, lighter, thinner, more flexible hook will allow more natural movement for bait/lures. Small natural movement is the name of the game for bream fishing. That's why I tend to favor smaller hooks. + Seems more sporting and fun to me. I've used some small hooks in my day. Not a 20, but down to 16. Makes for a great, natural presentation and keeps you guessing (and hoping) during the fight. UL rod, great drag, 4 lb line or < (or fly tackle equivalent), and a small hook makes fighting and landing a bull bream challenging, exciting and just plain FUN!

I'm no pro like most of these guys but my kids have caught hundreds on a #6....fortunately I've gotten a few also in between putting worms on the hooks.
Pray for a return to our Constitution.

... There definitely seems to be an agreement or popularity with the size 6 hooks. Not an agreement here. I will only use a #6 if I can't find anything smaller.

I tend to use 8s & 10s myself. A #6 is what I would use for carp. When Fly Fishing I have used down to a 24 in California's Muir Wilderness Area.
If people are happy using 6s I say there might be something to it. I do have some 6s for gills but haven't used them. With 6s being so popular, I think I'll give mine a try and see how I like them vs the 8 & 10s.

I usually use 6s, but I have some 8s that I save for when the fish are being picky.

I'm the oddball here. My grandkids and I use #4 cricket hooks when we use cricket hooks. We lose very little bait to the small fish and the fish don't swallow the size 4 very often. We occasionally switch to size 6 if there are a lot of little ones around.
Lately we have been using Owner Circle size 6 hooks. Really like the circle hooks except that it is harder to thread a worm on them.
Just my experience.

I like to keep an open mind when it comes to fishing. If I haven't tried something then I will, more than once and in different situations. I sure will be trying some larger hooks (6-4) in the near future.

I switched from 8s to 6s to cut down on swallowed hooks. I find that small fish will still bite, but the larger fish swallow the hook much less frequently now.

What do you use to remove your hooks?
I have a few pairs of forceps and a disgorger.

Gerber Fisherman 400. They work great for me and I don't rip the fish up. + It carries extra tools that I use including a handy hook sharpener. It's not the best hook sharpener that I've used, but it's pretty good, handy and does the job. And, the scissors cut braid.
